Digestion Question

I ate a bowl of melon at 1:00 PM..took some vitamins (not C) at 1:30

PM Ate an apple at 2:00 PM and within 5 minutes had a rumbling/noisy

stomach..at 2:15 went to bathroom and had gas/ loose stools.

Rumbling continued for an hour thereafter

My Question is as follows :

Is it possible that the apple could have gone through the digestive

process process that quickly and caused the rumbling in my stomach

and the subsequent loose stool. I thought the process of eating a

fruit and subsequent excetion takes several hours due to the

digestive process. I am trying to figure out what it was that caused

the upset. Can you eat something and get subsequent gas/loose stools

within such a short interval. This is not the first time this has

happened with fruit. I don't think that the vitamins were a factor.

Any explanation would be appreciated.

Thanks, Ken

Dr. Hoffman has a good book on digestion. Sorry I can't remember

title but I am sure you can look it up. Anyway, he recommends using

charcoal tablets to determine the average transit time of digestion

of your food. You may want to find the book to get the exact # of

charcoal tablets suggested and give it a try. (I have not done it.

I am so sensitive to everything that I am even afraid to take the

charcoal tablets.)

Sometimes, I react as you did 5 minutes to 2 hours after having the

offending food --- and other times 24 hours later.

If I reacted to either the melon, vitamins, or apple, I would first

pass a normal bowel movement from any previously digested food eaten

before 1pm and finally have a loose bowel movement from undigested

food that was causing the reaction. In between the two, I may pass

a second bowel movement from food I had no problem with but there

was insufficient time to digest it because the food causing the

reaction pushed it out. Example: If the apple was the problem and

I ate it before really digesting the melon or vitamins, I would have

a second bowel movement of the undigested melon or vitamins before

passing the apple. All three would be loose because there was

insufficient time to digest them. (Boy, being this analytical

really proves I am in trouble! Got to laugh when your life reaches

this level of detail!) Anyway, you may find it helpful to check out

the IBS discussions on this. Feel better.

Corn usually goes through everybody - dunno why. I've never heard of peppers

being hard to digest. But if you are finding other foods undigested in your

feces, try adding some digestive enzymes to your meals. It should help.

Cheers

Digestion Question

Hello all,

I am wondering if when peppers, corn and such pass the intestines

undigested, what is the cause? Could it be lack of enzymes, intestines

moving too fast (reaction to food) or what?

All answers appreciated.

God bless,

Hazelpone
