i'm not a veggie, I eat fish once a month but sugar is out for me. Unless it is

natural like fruit. But I hear ya, there are a lot of unhealthy vegetarians.

And a lot of unhealthy meat eaters too.:0)

Like so many things [such as th holocaust] it is debated. Here are some

supposed direct quotes from Hitler:

" One may regret living at a period when it's impossible to form an idea

of the shape the world of the future will assume. But there's one thing

I can predict to eaters of meat: the world of the future will be

vegetarian. "

- Adolf Hitler. November 11, 1941. Section 66, HITLER'S TABLE TALK

" If I offer a child the choice between a pear and a piece of meat, he'll

quickly choose the pear. That's his atavistic instinct speaking. "

- Adolf Hitler. December 28, 1941. Section 81, HITLER'S TABLE TALK

" The only thing of which I shall be incapable is to share the sheiks'

mutton with them. I'm a vegetarian, and they must spare me from their meat. "

- Adolf Hitler. January 12, 1942. Section 105, HITLER'S TABLE TALK

" At the time when I ate meat, I used to sweat a lot. I used to drink

four pots of beer and six bottles of water during a meeting. ... When I

became a vegetarian, a mouthful of water was enough. "

- Adolf Hitler. January 22, 1942. Section 117, HITLER'S TABLE TALK

" When you offer a child the choice of a piece of meat, an apple, or a

cake, it's never the meat that he chooses. There's an ancestral instinct

there. "

- Adolf Hitler. January 22, 1942. Section 117, HITLER'S TABLE TALK

" One has only to keep one's eyes open to notice what an extraordinary

antipathy young children have to meat. "

- Adolf Hitler. April 25, 1942. Section 198, HITLER'S TABLE TALK

" When I later gave up eating meat, I immediately began to perspire much

less, and within a fortnight to perspire hardly at all. My thirst, too,

decreased considerably, and an occasional sip of water was all I

required. Vegetarian diet, therefore, has some obvious advantages. "

- Adolf Hitler. July 8, 1942. Section 256, HITLER'S TABLE TALK

" I am no admirer of the poacher, particularly as I am a vegetarian. "

- Adolf Hitler. August 20, 1942. Section 293, HITLER'S TABLE TALK

Have you tried Niacin (vitamin B3) It lowered mine some and raised HDL

a little

but it cut triglycerides in half. IMHO Lipitor is POISON.

I'll let you know how my blood work goes in a few weeks. But the

gallbladder/liver cleanse should help with lowering your cholesterol.

But you will still need to modify your diet. I did a few GB cleanse

over the last few months and then did another followed by the Master

cleanse and that helped me really transition into a MUCH lower fat

diet.

Look up some info on GB and cholesterol and they are related.

My total cholesterol was 304--- down to 271 triglycerides 311

to 153

HDL 44 ---up to 46 LDL 198 down to 183 risk factor 7.0 down to 5.9

According to some Dr.'s I've read as many people have heart attacks and

strokes

with low to normal cholesterol as with high. Work on the triglycerides as

that is the bad part. Stay away from sodas, chips, sugar and other junk

foods and I was taking

6 (500 mg) of slow release Niacin in 3 divided doses. And I still partake

of a few Keystone Lights from time to time. My Dr. put me on the Niacin

when I told him flat out that I wasn't gonna take Any kind of Statin drugs.

Good luck.

BTW Medicare or Medicaid even covers them.

why on earth would you take cholesterol meds? explain to your doc that you

are hypothyroid and the right meds will normalize your cholesterol levels, along

with enough iodine.

I would change docs actually. this one is number than a hake.

Gracia

Ronie,

Have you noticed any adverse side effects? My doctor wants me to take a

cholestrol meds

and I am resisting because I do not want to deal with the side effects.

Have your thyroid tested before you start taking any meds. for

cholesterol.. High cholesterol is usually caused by low thyroid or

hypothryoidism..

The tests to have is FT4, FT3, TSH and anitbodies.......don't let

the doc. say TSH in fine,,, because IT IS NOT......

Is this really true? I don't believe that high lipids are " Usually " caused

by hypothyroid, though most literature says being hypo may cause it. The

prevailing factors seem to be family history, high fat diet, lack of

excercise, being overweight, age and sex (aging increasing lipids) and

drinking to excess. Generally hypo is listed after all of these as a risk

factor, along with liver disease, kidney disease, diabetes and some

medicines.

hypo T is just one cause of high cholesterol and dyslipidemia aka high lipids.

even if people can get their hypo T under control and have a normal thyroid

function- they CAN STILL HAVE elevated cholesterol and dyslipidemia. I have

patients that have it and I had patients with the same scenario. In those cases

it was the other factors [ 1 or more] that caused it: genetics; obesity; poor

diet; sedentary lifestyle; metabolic syndrome; insulin resistance; diabetes;

taking long term steroids; heart disease; liver disease; renal disease; other

medications.

Yes, that is what doctors and big pharma say,,, but,,,, I am

inclined to believe it is hypothyroidism that is causing it... I got

high cholesterol when I was sick with Cushings Syndrome (tumor on my

left adrenal gland) after surgery & within a year my cholesterol

went back down it was a high normal then when I started getting sick

with hypo then boy did it raise, the doc. was thinking family stuff

& gave my cholesterol meds. they caused probs. & when I got on

Armour & Cytomel & my Ft4 went to the bottom & FT3 went to the

top,,, I no longer had to take cholesterol meds. & my level was at

92 from 256, so stopped the meds. and now my level is about 125.. so

this is why I believe the way I do.. I'm not the only one either.

This might be true but the docs. don't even check for hypot at all

before giving cholesterol meds..........this is the case with me..

Note that the criteria includes many scenarios - not just age related high

lipids. Were you overweight, not engaging in physical activities, diabetic,

or did you have a strong family history? My nephew had high lipids at age

4, but our family history is such that changing his diet and getting him

moving in sports fixed that. At age four all he wanted to eat was Mac and

Cheese, Cheeseburgers, Grilled cheese - in other words - all things

cheese!!!! Changing that changed his lipids.

No, mine was being hypo. No I wasn't over weight, I was very active in high

You might be talking to someone else but I'll answer that.... When I

found out I had high cholesterol before I had cushings I was

extremely active, I did physical labor building trucks 40 to 45 hr.

per week, worked out with weights hr. a day 4 to 7 days a week, was

ready to start pushing 300 lbs. on my legs & so forth, taking my

kids to cheerleading & football at the same time at different

fields, being a single mother at the time, so I did it

all................................................... I was very

active.. it was hormones that was causing the high

cholesterol.......................................................

it went down after surgery without meds...then after I close to

being optimized on the thyroid meds. it went down again.

hypothyroidism used to be Dxed by high cholesterol levels. read the book

Hypothyroidism: the Unsuspected Illness by Broda MD. good fats are

perfectly OK, as Dr. Atkins told us. also Swarzbein Principle by

Swarzbein MD. Allopathic medicine just confuses the issue and blames the

victim.

Actually if you cut out sugar instead of fats, you will be very surprised at

what

happens. Your lipid numbers will definitely go down.

I have been to Dr. Atkins, and I think he was wonderful.

dr. atkins was not advocating only good fats- he was advocating eating bacon,

sausage and red meat which has tons of cholesterol. also he advocated eating

fatty cheeses and unlimited amounts of eggs which also have cholesterol.

he in fact DIED of high cholesterol's effects on the body.

Just like the statement statins are good for you, fat is bad for is also wrong.

Dr. Atkins

died after he fell on the ice and injured his head.

If fat is bad for you and raises your cholesterol, I challenge you to

eliminate carbohydrates

from your diet except for vegetables (no potatoes, peas ,beets or corn either)

and

fruits like berries, watermelon, cantaloupe. That means no bread, corn chips

or popped

corn, potato chips, cereal and anything else that says carbohydrate.

Choose lean meat (you don't have to go nuts), fish, poultry, nuts, eggs,

cheese, cream (no milk), no caffeine, salad, (limited tomatoes) veggies, butter,

olives, oil.

Do this for four weeks and have your cholesterol and lipids checked and tell

us what you

see. Also, you will be losing weight, so I hope you are not skinny to start.

OMG, I'm ROFL. This is my diet now and I'm morbidly obese with high

lipids. I live the diet you are suggesting and I can tell you as a gal who

inherited an extremely strong family history for bad lipids, it ain't

working for me!!!!!

Re: Re: cholesterol

Just like the statement statins are good for you, fat is bad for is also

wrong. Dr. Atkins

died after he fell on the ice and injured his head.

If fat is bad for you and raises your cholesterol, I challenge you to

eliminate carbohydrates

from your diet except for vegetables (no potatoes, peas ,beets or corn

either) and

fruits like berries, watermelon, cantaloupe. That means no bread, corn chips

or popped

corn, potato chips, cereal and anything else that says carbohydrate.

Choose lean meat (you don't have to go nuts), fish, poultry, nuts, eggs,

cheese, cream (no milk), no caffeine, salad, (limited tomatoes) veggies,

butter, olives, oil.

Do this for four weeks and have your cholesterol and lipids checked and tell

us what you

see. Also, you will be losing weight, so I hope you are not skinny to start.

dr. atkins was not advocating only good fats- he was advocating eating

bacon, sausage and red meat which has tons of cholesterol. also he advocated

eating fatty cheeses and unlimited amounts of eggs which also have

cholesterol.

he in fact DIED of high cholesterol's effects on the body.

sorry I meant Schwarzbein

Gracia

hypothyroidism used to be Dxed by high cholesterol levels. read the book

Hypothyroidism: the Unsuspected Illness by Broda MD. good fats are

perfectly OK, as Dr. Atkins told us. also Swarzbein Principle by

Swarzbein MD. Allopathic medicine just confuses the issue and blames the

victim.

Generally hypo is listed after all of these as a risk

factor, along with liver disease, kidney disease, diabetes and some

medicines.

My father was skinny as a rail 5ft 10 in and 135 lbs and had hideous lipids.

As did his father - all his uncles, all of his brothers. I'm not being

rude, but at 52, you are " aging " . Do you have a family history of high

lipids. All oft hese things being said, the blurb I wrote below says

specifically that hypo (or diabetes, or liver disease or certain blood

pressure meds or certain cancer meds - most notably Tamoxifen and so on and

so on) may cause high lipids - it just isn't the " usual " cause.
