I heard from one of my NDs that calcium, magnesium and

FOLIC ACID will help us to have a good sleep. He just

told me that when I shared about doing extra cal/mag

for the ph leveling thing.

God bless you! We will be Candida FREE!!! YEAHHH!!!

For the past few months my son has cut down from sleeping 7 hours a

night to about 5.5-6. If he didn't wake up and immediately start

tearing through the apt. (we live above our landlords) and making

very loud noises, this wouldn't be so much of a problem. I can't

maintain my own health on less than 6 hours of sleep every night and

at this point even if it is just that his own body happens to only

need to sleep that much, I need him asleep longer.

I have tried melatonin (which tends to put him to sleep immediately,

but decrease the overall hours), valerian root, paxil briefly but I

stopped because of the reported side effects, GABA, treating yeast,

and taking wheat out of his diet. He doesn't eat any sugar, yeast,

dairy, or anything artificial, ever.

Does anyone use medication or is there another natural alternative I

can try? He has recently started eating fruit (organic yellow &

gala apples and bananas only), but he's taking a lot of No Fenol

with that, and I'm not seeing the other phenol symptoms like I used

to. Would phenols or all the No Fenol be impacting how much he

sleeps?

Thanks,

Amy

We use the trazadone for our daughter. It was a tough decision to put her on a

sleep med, but it has turned out to be lifesaver for all of us. She sleeps 10-11

hours and awakes much happier (me too!)

Good luck,

I used Inositol- it did nothing for my son.

Someone suggested Kirkman's GABA- it has Inositol in it. Has anyone had any

success with that?

GABA did nothing for us here, except my son was very groggy the next

day.

I am considering meds but for now this plus the recent chicken

intolerance (!!) has inspired me to go back on ALA. I hadn't done

any chelation with him for over a year, for various reasons. If

possible, I'd prefer to get rid of the source of these problems

rather than continue to try to rotate his foods, and treat

everything else that comes up.

Thanks everyone for the very good ideas.

Amy this is why I am such an enthusiast about chelating. I told

myself that if I didn't see any benefits from it except her being

able to eat normal food again it would be well worth the effort.

As it turns out we are seeing lots of benefits in addition to greater

food tolerance and we are still in the early stages. Good luck!

RJ,

I have a question about your Trazodone usage: how mgs did you take a day. My

psychiatrist just gave me a RX for Trazodone but it makes me feel like a zombie

in the morning.

Thanks,

I need help sleeping. I was on Trazadone for the last 3 years and it

worked great with the Lexapro, however recently it stopped working.

What other options are there available for sleep. Thanks in advance.

Thanks RJ for your quick response...

I took 100 mg last night for severe insomnia and I when I got up to go to work

it was beyond horrible! My psych told me to take 50 mg, but I have been

experiencing such bad insomnia that I took a 3rd pill, then a 4th...I don't know

how people can take it during the day... does anyone else experienced the

horrors of trazodone like me???

Hi Liz,

Trazadone takes a few weeks for the hungover feeling to subside in the

morning. I have been taking 50mg. for 4 years now, and it works great for me.

Don't take more than your prescribed by your Dr.

I don't think many Dr.s prescribe it during the day, because of the sedation.

Hope you feel better,

Suzi

Hi Suzi,

Thanks for the info. That's great that you can take 50 mg and for 4 years too.

I envy you. Somehow I don't think Trazodone is for me. Wish me luck on finding

a new sleeping aid!

Hi RJ,

I take Ambien as needed for sleep. It works really well for me.

Trazadone didn't work for me at all. I got migraines from it.

Over-the-counter Melatonin might help, too.

What does your doc suggest?

Hi Liz,

Trazadone didn't work for me at all. For some people it works like a

charm. (Where I used to work all the clients took it and it worked

for them beautifully.) For others it can cause migraines. I didn't

believe it would give me migraines because I'd never had one in my

life. I was soooo wrong. Took it two nights. Both mornings I could

not get out of bed even to get water and pain killers my head hurt so bad.

Like Suzi said, don't take more than what your doc prescribes. It's

one of those drugs that's used in different doses for different

things. Have you talked to your doc about other options? There are

sooo many sleep aids out there now there has to be one that's right

for you.

Good luck and I hope you get some sleep soon!

Hi Liz,

I have heard good things about rozerem for sleep, it's considered

non-addictive.

You can read more info on it, at www.rozerem.net I hope this helps.

I think I've read somewhere that one should not take Melatonin with

antidepressants. You should check it out, ask a pharmacist or something before

you try it.

Has anyone tried Lunesta? My problem is not falling asleep but

staying asleep. I feel like I am waking up hundreds of times a night.

I know some sleep aids help falling asleep while others help prevent

awakenings.

I took Abien 10 mg, it worked, then the next week 10 mg wasn't enought, so I

took 20 mg. then that wasn't enough and took 30 mg (3 pills) which works

great. One thing though, I wake up somewhat tired, but it goes away after a

couple of hours, unlike Trazodone. My psych doesn't want me to take to much, so

tomorrow I have an appt with her and we are going to go over my meds,

specifically sleeps aids.

Can I ask a kinda risque question here? Has anyone smoked a joint to calm down

and then take meds before sleep? I have and haven't had cannabis before meds

and it seems to make no difference. I though it would make sleeping easier, but

it doesn't.

Thanks to all of you for your feedback, that in itself makes me feel better

knowing I am not the only one going through this.

Liz

Hi Jen,

It seems you and I are the only ones who don't like Trazaodone...I thought I was

the only one! It did give me a headache too, I thought it was a sinus headache

and ended up taking Claritin...trazodone immobilizes me to the point that I feel

like I had a lobotomy.

Yup, I am talking to my psych tomorrow and it's good to know like you said,

there are so many things out there to sleep, that in itself makes me feel

better.

BTW, klonopin does wonders for my sleep but my psych is reluctant to prescribe

me for than 15 mg. I know it can cause addiction, but I was on it before years

ago and was able to stop (My life was a lot less complicated then). Has anyone

else had experience with klonopin?

RJ,

I tried Lunesta, but after a week one pill didn't work for me. If I take 2 mg

What mg Lunesta did you take? I had all of them 1 mg 2 mg and 3 mg

I quit smoking pot a couple of months ago. One of the reasons I smoked it was

to help me sleep. I quit the stuff because I knew it was messing with my brain

chemistry. Now that I don't have it in my system, I'm not sleeping well at all.

I have a Dr. appointment this afternoon and I'm going to ask him if I can take

my Lex. at bedtime. It does make me sleep thru the night. I don't have trouble

get ting to sleep but I wake up several times a night and just lay there until I

fall asleep and wake up again several hours later. Sue CFrom: [mailto: lizzstergiou@...]To:

Thanks Sue for your reply. Maybe I should consider not doing pot either, but it

does so relax me at times...

I used to smoke pot back in 1968 and 1969. As I recall, it did nothing to help

me sleep. Nod off and zone out, maybe, but not sleep.

I took Abien 10 mg, it worked, then the next week 10 mg wasn't enought, so I

took 20 mg. then that wasn't enough and took 30 mg (3 pills) which works great.

One thing though, I wake up somewhat tired, but it goes away after a couple of

hours, unlike Trazodone. My psych doesn't want me to take to much, so tomorrow I

have an appt with her and we are going to go over my meds, specifically sleeps

aids.

Can I ask a kinda risque question here? Has anyone smoked a joint to calm down

and then take meds before sleep? I have and haven't had cannabis before meds and

it seems to make no difference. I though it would make sleeping easier, but it

doesn't.

Thanks to all of you for your feedback, that in itself makes me feel better

knowing I am not the only one going through this.

Liz
