DMSA chelation

For Andy or the " experts " on the list,

When doing DMSA chelation, is it possible to say what someone should

expect (as to how they feel)? Do you experience nothing? Do you feel

worse for a while and then better? If you start taking it for a 3 day stretch,

every four hours, and you feel pretty bad on the second day, should you

stop? What would be the indications to watch for that would signal that

it would be best to stop? Or do you just complete the 3 days no matter

what??

All help much appreciated,

Dave

Dave,

I'm guessing everyone feels a little differently with DMSA. My grandsons were a

good example. Two of them were hyper and the third was eating better than

usual.

DMSA seems to be somewhat energizing for me, especially on the first day. In

the

beginning, I had extreme anxiety and would hurt in various places. If the side

effects were too much, I would just reduce the dosage and finish the cycle. I

have

done similar things with the alpha lipoic acid. As the 3 day cycle goes on, I

have

less energy and feel washed out by the end and for the next day or two after. I

always decide just before my next cycle whether or not I feel up to it. The

chelation is hard on the body. Sometimes, I need more time to rest than others.

Hope that helps,

Carmen

Hi Carmen,

This was exactly the type of feedback I was hoping for.

Thanks very much.

----------You might not be, but you may want to try a few more rounds. I'm

not clear on how many Andy would recommend to verify that you're not. And I get

the impression that using ALA would really be the tell-tale sign, but you have

to wait three months after amalgam removal to do this. Read the links in the

wiki below, but remember this is mostly kids who don't have amalgams, so they

don't have to wait on trying ALA. Some seem to mention that it took a few

rounds, or even 10, to notice anything, so you might want to try a few more. We

usually recommend 3-4 rounds at the same dose before increasing, so you may want

to try one more at 25mg, and if you still have no effects, then try raising the

dosage and see if you notice anything then. And to be absolutely certain, I

think trying ALA when your 3 months is up, would be the ultimate test, because

that pulls from the brain and deep tissues. Sorry I can't give you a clearer

answer on this! Good luck and keep us posted.--------Jackie

Thanks for the Reply Jackie

My health has continued to decline to the point that I can hardly

walk now due to severe pains in my feet.I still have the red burning

hands and feet as well.

I will continue on DMSA a few more rounds to be sure.I have a

appointment at Mayo ville in April,so we will make the long

drive there in hopes of a answer.I have tried everything else.

Again thanks:I will keep you posted on the Chelation.

When we say 'change' with trial chelation we mean ANY change - for the

better or worse. If you are getting WORSE with chelation, then that is

'change' and it is highly likely (and possible definitive) that metals are

causing your underlying problems.

If this is the case then you are likely on too HIGH a dose of DMSA and

should decrease it immediately. You could be moving metals INTO the brain

with the DMSA. This would happen if you have a high body burden of mercury,

and although DMSA does not cross the Blood-Brain-Barrier carrying mercury in

directly, it will stir up way too many metals if used at too high a dose for

you and those metals can move into the brain.

I always relate burning hands and feel to nerve toxicity or artery spasm due

to autonomic nervous control issues (as in Reynaud's). Both can be from

mercury in the nerves or brain. Either way ALA would be needed. The ALA

might be what ultimately makes the most difference in this case.

I would seriously consider dropping the dose of DMSA right down to 12.5mg

and maybe lower and see what happens.

That is if I have interpreted your situation correctly?

I went back and looked at your hair test, symptoms, and history. You

said your symptoms started after a diet of high mercury fish and then

a protocol of EDTA and NAC. The history of amalgams (including under

gold), high mercury fish diet, and subsequent symptoms including

candida, weight loss, pain, blood pooling in extremities, etc is

pretty supportive of the idea that you are mercury toxic. The EDTA

and NAC would have moved a lot of mercury to your brain and and a

trial of DMSA won't touch that.

I realize some of your symptoms seem to be body symptoms, but

sometimes body symptoms are really caused by brain problems (such as

HPA issues).

For now, I would try a few more rounds of DMSA. If you really feel

nothing at all for a couple of rounds, I would try increasing the

dose.

After 3 months, try several rounds of ALA. It can reach the brain

and will be the best way to confirm toxicity.

I think Andy had commented previously that some type of adrenal

support might help with the blood pooling symptoms. If you haven't

tried hydrocortisone, that might be what you need.

I forgot to mention that the EDTA and NAC protocol is also a likely

reason why your hair test does not meet counting rules. Hair tests

do not show mercury in the brain.
