That's why I'm trying to figure out which disc's could affect the nerves to which regions. What kind of a doctor does your husband go to? Thanks for the reply, / WV (IC, Vulvodynia,Endo)

He had pain in his lower back. He first went to a chiropractor who 'adjusted'

him for awhile. It didn't work. He then went to a orthopedic doctor who did

xrays in his lower back and neck. It showed degenerative discs. We didn't

realize at the time that all middle age (49) people have degenerative discs.

The doctor sent him for physical therapy. After about six months of not

getting better and getting worse, the PT suggested that he have an MRI. His

doctor didn't suggest it. We had to go to Florida to see his dad and he was

going to have the MRI when we returned, but the discs didn't hold out. They

fragmented into pieces and pierced his dural sac. The pain was excruciating,

and my husband has a very high pain tolerance.

The hospital in Florida was a nightmare. They gave him morpheine (it didn't

work) and sent him home. Two blocks from the hospital he got out of the car in

pain, laid on someones lawn and we had to call another ambulance to take him

back. It's a long story, but we were in the ER for 11 hours.

When he came home, he had surgery. He did not have siatic pain before the disc

blew out. The day it happened he did. Pain down his leg and foot and butt and

back. After the surgery, his right butt check was at least an inch lower than

his right, there was no muscle tone at all. His leg was numb and well as his

foot and he limped. He was 49.

Now his butt is a little higher, he only limps when he is fatiqued and his foot

is still numb. His leg is still a little numb.

Hope this helps.
