>>This is why they prescribe beta blockers for hyperthyroidism as they

did prescribe propranolol for me back in August; because they inhibit

converion ot T4 to T3. These are the worst things for someone with hypoT.

>>

I just had a visit with my endo and asked him specifically about the

blockage of t4 to t3 and he said that's not how the beta blockers work,

and that they don't in fact stop the conversion.

Does anyone have any sources to quote that b-b's block t4 to t3?

Hi Val,

I checked this and other papers out on pub med. It seems quite clear

that beta blockers effect thyroid hormone in hyper's, but what about in

normals and/or in hypo's??

thanks,

Dahlia

>>The changes observed in serum T3 and in rT3 could be explained by an

inhibition of the 5'deiodinase enzyme by propranolol and alprenolol and

an inhibition of both the 5'deiodinase and 5 deiodinase enzymes caused

by atenolol and metoprolol.<<

The deiodinase enzymes are what the body uses in ANYONE for thyroid

conversion. Not just peopel that are hyper thyroid. If they are

inhibited in them they will be inhibited in anyone else too.

have gone now. My pulse is in the high 80's most the itme and ALL

withotu beta blockers. I had those same symptoms for YEARS. Chnges made

to affect this: Taking 400MG Magnesium at bedtime, Lowering HC, going to

half decaf coffee. PERIOD. I did have to get to the 150mcg of T3 first

adn then Lower HC sloely, but it has worked an d I htink lowering the HC

has been the biggest part of this.>

Last night once again I had terrible palps, only this time I took 1200

mgs Magnesium Taurate, salt water + vitamin C and within minutes, I was

able to sleep. I had tried lower doses of mag., w/no success. No beta

blockers needed!
