Hi Arline.

I do take florastor daily, which is a probiotic. It is not

acidophilis but it contains lyophilized saccharomyces boulardii. This

is suppose to maintain healthy flora in the intestinal tract. My one

doctor told me to take this, she deals with intergrative medicine so

she is holistic/western medicine. Would this be helpful with helping

prevent a yeast infection while on antibiotics?

Jen, I sincerly doubt taking a probiotic of any kind would help

prevent a vaginal yeast infection.

2 reasons. 1. Any probiotic on the market (or off) does not contain the

correct strain of bacteria. In other words, the bacteria in the

probiotic does not have the dna necessary to allow attachement to the

vaginal walls.

2. The chances of any bacteria actually surviving the process of being

grown, lypholizing then traveling through the digestive tract and end

up inside the vagina is small to nil.

Hi Jen,

I am hardly any authority at all about probiotics but

I believe that one should only take the ones that only

have lactobacillus in them and not the ones with

yeast. Too many of us are sensitive to various yeasts

and some of them are so similar as to cross react.

There is only one probiotic that I would use and that

is one called Culturelle and I would use that one

because a doctor I respect told me about that. It only

has lactobacillus. I just bought some for my son who

has Celiac and various stomach and intestinal

bacterial infections.

You have a complicated case and I need to think about

it but will get back to you. You might not like what I

say (laugh) but I mean no harm. Your bowel motility is

very interesting and actually has been helpful for me

and my own condition.

Later. (I have to cook dinner, etc.--pretend to be the

dutiful housewife) heh heh heh!

Hi. That is funny you mentioned the culturelle. I just bought some yesterday. I was thinking about switching to this one. I also was wondering if the florastor could be possibly causing me some of my problems. I even called the info number for florastor and the lady said that it is not suppose to leave the intestinal tract, and should no cause yeast infections, but should prevent them. But who knows, maybe it could cause problems. I have been on it for over a year now. I think I am going to just switch to the culturelle though and see how that goes. The funny thing is that when I think back, all my motility issues started right after I was on two rounds of antibiotics for a severe throat infection about three and half years ago. I swear the antibiotics started off my stomach issues because back then I did not know about probiotics, no doctor ever told me I should take them(figures). Thanks for all the info, I

really appreciate it. I can use all the advice I can get right now. What do you think started all your digestive issues?
