Jonna,

Congratulations. You are starting on an epic journey. You will have all

the excitement, fear, joy and accomplishment of the " Lord of the Rings "

and more.

We use Cal/Mag/Zinc III. There are at least 2 formulations. The CMZ III

has added vitamins. That is what we use plus brazil nuts, milk of

magnesia and fresh fruits and vegetables. We also use what are called

Omega 3 eggs. Apparently they have the good stuff in them. We use Becel

margarine available here in Canada. We don't use any other multivitamin.

This is a good question as there are some children who show deficiencies

on the diet, such as hair falling out.

To aid in constipation we use the low carb vegetables and add psyllium

husks and water to each meal for more fibre.

Sometimes kids don't " go " as often on the diet because of the

much-reduced bulk.

Good luck,

Bill

Hi Jonna,

Welcome... even though you've been here a little while. Keto is an

exciting journey... and has been our miracle.

We don't use the Cal-Mag-Zinc product, although we do supplement all

of those minerals for our daughter. A lot of parents here do use it

and I'm sure they will respond about using it in addition to your

multi or not.

I just wanted to welcome you and let you know how happy I am that you

are giving the diet a chance to help your daughter. I hope you have

a great start on the 1st!!!

Jonna,

Our daughter is 9 years old. We have successfully overcome constipation by

increasing her magnesium intake. We give her the same amount of magnesium

as calcium. If it causes her stool to be too soft then we decrease the

magnesium a little bit. Magnesium is known to help the body to relax. I

don't know if it has significantly helped our daughter to relax but it has

definitely kept her from being constipated. When we first started out on

the diet 2 years ago and had constipation problems this is what the list

recommended. You could find a lot of information in the archives on this

topic. I'm happy to hear that Cassandra will be trying the diet. Our

daughter has complex partial seizures and the diet has eliminated the awake

one. We do periodically have tonic-clonic or complex-partial sleep seizures

but they have improved tremendously. We have had the best results on the

diet after weaning most of her medications. The Klonipin was the first to

go and then the topamax shortly after. The trileptal is nearly gone but we

can't seem to get rid of the last 225mg. We tried once but she (Shan)

really went down hill and was paralysed on her left side.

How about trying eggs a different way - scrambled, poached, over

easy? You could try chicken pancakes that's a great recipe

Sounds like some extra veggies are needed. There are lots of great

pancakes that you can make with veggies added. If extra fluids and

more vegetables don't get more regular bm's you can try the

constipation protocol at http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/

Although it is pretty early on in the diet and this also may be due

to some die-off.

> When can I

Pecan butter or almond butter are good ones to start with. You

could probably make up some nut muffins and try a half a muffin the

first day with lots of peeled, cooked fruit and veggies and lots of

fluids now. If he does okay with half a muffin then increase to a

whole muffin. Let us know if that doesn't get things moving.

Dear Group,

I am the mother of a 3 yr. old boy with ASD. He has been on the

GF/CF/SF diet since last March. He did well initially, but he has

recently regressed (very limited eye contact, no babbling

whatsoever, and increased stimming behaviors). We recently saw Dr.

Megson in Richmond, VA, and she is currently attempting to heal

his gut with probiotics, supplements, and antifungal medications. I

am anxious to get started on SCD. The into. diet will be

challenging, since Hunter has many IgG allergies (eggs, almonds,

hazlenut, white fish meat, lentils, and mustard seed). Does anyone

have suggestions on what to fix for breakfast and/or snack?

Also, I am concerned about how the diet will work, since he is

allergic to egg, white fish, and almonds, and these ingredients

appear to be throughout many of the recipes in the book.

I would appreciate any input from the group!

Welcome!

There are many parents dealing with similar issues here.

You can substitute pecan or cashew flour/butter equally for almond

products. We use pecan flour in most of our baked good because of

almond's high salicylate content. I like the pecan baked goods better

than the almond flour ones I've baked for myself anyhow.

there are lots of ides for egg substitutes at the pecanbread website

and the fish recipes are easily avoided.

Sam wouldn't touch an egg with a 10 ft pole, so he only gets them in

baked goods. For intro (since there are no baked goods) he ate alot of

roasted chicken drumstick, hamburgers, steamed baby carrots, and

pineapple jello (made with Knox.)

On day 2 we started adding nut butters in and Sam had peanut butter

banana pancakes everyday for breakfast for a week or so! You could use

one of the egg subs or the egg free recipes from the pecanbread site.

We also successfully made yogurt using cashew milk if you are doing a

dairy free version of SCD. Now we use goat yogurt and Sam has a

smoothie and a cashew butter muffin every morning for breakfast.

Good luck!

Hi ,

My son Liam has been SCD for about 12 wks now. Prior to that, he

was GFCFSFCF for over a year, ate only whole and organic foods, no

packaged GF stuff.

When we removed brown rice from his diet, his stools went from loose

to firm within a couple of days.

Over time, his receptive language has improved significantly. It

seems he understands almost everything we say to him and sometimes

follows our verbal instructions.

His appetite is voracious and he is steadily gaining weight - his

little face and legs are filling out each day.

Verbally, he has made slow improvements. He is not talking

consistently but we do hear words or approximations sprinkled

throughout the day, sometimes echocholaic, sometimes crisp and

clear - things like " more " , " Mama " , " Dada " , " no " , " pie " , words from

his vocab videos, etc. His preschool teacher reports that he is

pointing more, is more attentive and generally more with it.

He is also 2 wks in to a 4 wk Nystatin cycle. He gets Methyl B-12

shots 2x/wk (which has helped tremendously w/his sleep) and takes

SuperNuThera each day (this improved his eye contact A LOT) along

w/cod liver oil and arctic omega liquid. He seems to tolerate the

goat yogurt and he was EXTREMELY sensitive to cow's dairy.

My little guy has come very far but still has a long way to go. Our

biggest challenges right now are his on and off perseverative

behaviors, overall body awareness and mouthing.

I hope this information helps. SCD has definitely been worth the

time and effort for us. Let me know how your kids are doing as time

goes on.
