My guess is yeast but I am not sure.

My son used to be like that though he is Nonverbal. He was

diagnosed with Seizures upon Spect Scan. After we began Lamictal his

extremely labile moods evened out.

I have been going through the same exact thing. I have described it to family as

" severe bipolar " . Example: today he spent 30 minutes beating on his grandpa

while we were in the car. And I mean BEATING on him and screaming at him! Then

when he got home he was happy and sweet for the rest of the day. I have never

seen him like this. My husband can't even go to work right now b/c we can't

leave his side or he will hurt our 2 year old! Sometimes we have to hold him

down, up to 90 minutes!

Our DAN says that given his history of PANDAS, he thinks that he is having a

PANDAS type reaction to other virus' or bacteria (guessing that would be called

PITAND syndrome). We just did a round of cipro to kill off any bacteria that

could be causing it, but it did not help. Now we are moving on to steroids for

inflammation of the brain.

Not that I wish this level of violence on anyone, glad to see I am not alone!

Pamela, can you tell me more about what the aggression was like that was linked

to seizures? I am wondering if he would just go balistic over nothing at all, or

was there usually something to provoke the rage/aggression (however rediculous

it may be)? Don't mean to hijack this thread, but I was told that sometimes

zithromax can cause seizures and this strange behavior started 2 days into

high-dose zithromax (for pandas, nonetheless). This new aggression is very

different from his usual pandas symptoms...

yes PANDAS or has he been put under for anything lately, low b12 can do this as can clostrida or yeast issues. cipro can REALLY mess with thing in the gut, probiotic him up BIG time, biotin, adn BIG time antifungals, cipro can cause gastritis (going through it right now from just 1.5 days of it coudn't even fishish it out) made my yeast aweful, fibro terrible, and now I have some new sever allergies...

Have you ever read dr. Bock's book?? Healing the New Childhood Epidemics??? If

so, there is a little girl in there who has PANDAS. Her main issue is flipping

into a rage, going from 0 to 60 in seconds. I believe her mother was crying to

dr. Bock on the phone while the little girl was throwing like lamps and anything

she could get ahold of. After the rage was over, she felt bad. It was very

uncontrollable.

It's hard to say what to do here. In cases of antibiotics, sometimes if you

didn't get the job done, then the bad bacteria is still hanging out, which can

almost exaggerate the symptoms and can make the child worse. For example, this

is why when people have infections, dr's will tell the patient to take the

entire dose. If you only take a day or two of it, you are killing the lighter

bacteria and leaving the harder to kill, more resistant type.

If you have dr. Bock's book, I would flip to that chapter. I think it's Alyssa

if I remember. I have it out in my car...I can glance at it later if you want me

to :)

Hi ,

Our son used to have these episodes of tantrumming, rages,

meltdowns that were completely organic in nature. Often he would be alone

in his room. He would start out crying. He would act as if he were

in Pain. We would try to intervene and soothe him and he would get

aggressive with us - bite, hit, bite himself, slam into walls, hit the walls,

hit the furniture. He would get this " wild animal " look in his

eyes, pupils dilated. He was inconsolable. He is Nonverbal so he

could not tell us what was wrong. This period could last up to an

hour. We found that a dosing on Ativan helped. He would average 3

of these a week. It was the most helpless feeling watching these.

Eventually we got a Spect Scan that provided us with evidence of

Seizures. We began Lamictal. We did a slow ramp up of dosing due to

risk of s Syndrome. When we got into a therapeutic range

these episodes became less frequent. They lasted for a shorter period of

time. As we continued up with the Lamictal dose they eventually faded

away. His moods evened out. He was on Celexa at the time for

anxiety and we were able to wean him off that entirely.

I don't know if your son is having seizures, but I agree with Dr

Rossignol that Seizures are under-diagnosed and under-treated in our

kids. Unusual behavior or tantrums are often considered just part of

Autism and aren't investigated fully. Dr. Rossignol and Dr. Bradstreet

did a workshop on Seizures at the Atlanta DAN! Conference. You can watch

for free here. www.autism.com/danwebcast

Please let me know if you have any more questions for me.

Sounds like me,after my meningitis almost three years ago.Three episodes a week was about right. What went with these really bad episodes was a very painful constriction of the arteries or blood vessels in the brain, accompanied by bursts of electrical activity. The neurologist I saw thought I was making it all up.They were the first thing to go away after I started on the high dose fish oil,but it took a couple of months. So my guess is it's something to do with inflammation. Was your son able to tell you if there was any pain ?

Was this during a very severe regression like it was for me?

No, our son is Nonverbal so he could not describe how he felt.

They were not associated with any regression.

Was this during a very severe regression like it was for

me?

Hi ,

Our son used to have these episodes of

tantrumming, rages, meltdowns that were completely organic in nature.

Often he would be alone in his room. He would start out crying.

He would act as if he were in Pain. We would try to intervene and

soothe him and he would get aggressive with us - bite, hit, bite himself,

slam into walls, hit the walls, hit the furniture. He would get this

" wild animal " look in his eyes, pupils dilated. He was

inconsolable. He is Nonverbal so he could not tell us what was

wrong. This period could last up to an hour. We found that a

dosing on Ativan helped. He would average 3 of these a week. It

was the most helpless feeling watching these.

Eventually we got a Spect Scan that

provided us with evidence of Seizures. We began Lamictal. We did

a slow ramp up of dosing due to risk of s Syndrome. When

we got into a therapeutic range these episodes became less frequent.

They lasted for a shorter period of time. As we continued up with the

Lamictal dose they eventually faded away. His moods evened out.

He was on Celexa at the time for anxiety and we were able to wean him off

that entirely.

I don't know if your son is having

seizures, but I agree with Dr Rossignol that Seizures are under-diagnosed and

under-treated in our kids. Unusual behavior or tantrums are often

considered just part of Autism and aren't investigated fully. Dr.

Rossignol and Dr. Bradstreet did a workshop on Seizures at the Atlanta DAN! Conference.

Pamela, can you tell me more about what the aggression was

like that was linked to seizures? I am wondering if he would just go balistic

over nothing at all, or was there usually something to provoke the

rage/aggression (however rediculous it may be)? Don't mean to hijack this

thread, but I was told that sometimes zithromax can cause seizures and this

strange behavior started 2 days into high-dose zithromax (for pandas,

nonetheless) . This new aggression is very different from his usual pandas

symptoms...

Sincerely,

No, our son is Nonverbal so he could not describe how he felt.

They were not associated with any regression.

Sounds like me,after my meningitis almost three years

ago.Three episodes a week was about right. What went with these really

bad episodes was a very painful constriction of the arteries or blood vessels

in the brain, accompanied by bursts of electrical activity. The neurologist I

saw thought I was making it all up.They were the first thing to go away after

I started on the high dose fish oil,but it took a couple of months. So my

PANDAS is like that, read up and see if that sounds like him

What the heck is wrong with my child

my 6 year old has become aggressive and bipolar like. One minute he's nice then the next he's talking to you in a gruff voice saying things like "go away I hit you" and he swings at me. He's soooo moody it changes in the blink of an eye. I spend my day trying not to set him off. This has been going on for about a month now. I can't take it anymore. ANy ideas as to what is going on?
