, I firmly believe than an appropriate chelation protocol will address both

viral and bacterial issues. You may have to experiment and research to find out

what chelator is appropriate for you. I am using DMSA and IP6.

Christel,

Do you keep your son on a maintenance dose of OLE? If so, what dosage? Trying to

figure out what to do on a daily basis. I have had him on 1,000 mg of OLE for

2-3 wks and he has done great, but is now getting yeasty. Can't do RX

antifungals anymore because he would most likely experience a PANDAS flare after

doing so.

Also, my son will all of a sudden make a loud noise. He thinks it's funny, but

it's almost like he " has " to get it out. He has these built up vocal noises that

he has to release. They aren't the " nnnnn " or " eeeee " type things that used to

be associated with yeast. Do these sound like vocal tics?

antifungals shouldn't give you flares for PANDAS, they address yeast, you can do OLE AND an antifungal,,,,,biofilm protical is exactly that. no we don't do OLE anymore as he is resistant to it now and started reacting to it negitively. hard for me to tell if something is a vocal tic over internet discription sorry!

I think ALA on Andy Cutler's protocol will fix the problem.

RX antifungals " do " cause PANDAS flares in my son. My DAN says it is because

clearing the yeast exposes what is present in his gut. This has happened more

than once now. If I OVER treat yeast, we get flares.

My son started making strange noises too recently. He was never like that

before. I have been treating him with Nystatin for about a month or so. Then I

had to stop for a few days as we had to test him for stool parasitology. Then, I

started again with Nystatin (and 3 drops of GSE). This was the same time, I

changed Vit E from one brand to another. Then he started making shreiking noises

(high pitch). After a couple of weeks it changed to grunts (it feels like you

described - that he cannot help it, he has to get it out (both the shreiking and

grunts)). I didn't realize that it might be Nystatin or GSE since he has been

taking it before. But I finally stopped all anti-fungals. When I asked my DAN

he said that I need to rotate my antifungals. I am not sure if it is yeast

flare-up or virus flare-up. I stopped Vit E too (I am waiting for my order of

soy-free vitamin E to come). Now the grunts are lower in pitch, but still there.

Figuring this out is driving me nuts. Keep me posted if you figure out

something.

Thanks

- Angay

not ever heard of a soy free vit E looked for close to 7 years now....make SURE it's soy free, companies are tricky in how they mask it. list the one you bought and we may already be able to answer for you

The one I bought is Carlson's D-Alpha Gems - they claim it is soy-free

eventhough soybean oil is used. They say that it is the highest concentration of

soybean oil and thus soy protein free. When I ran out of it, I placed another

order and it still hasn't arrived yet. The other one I found is called Unique-E

from acgrace. They claim it is soy-free too. I really couldn't find Vit E made

from something else other than soy.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

The very first time we ever did a systematic antifungal, we did it for an entire

month. The last week of treatment, he broke out in those tiny red and flesh

colored bumps all over his back. Never had this before in his entire life. Took

him to the dr who diagnosed him with Scarlet Fever and positive throat swab for

STREP.

Flares for us are loss of eye contact, stumbling over feet, loss of language,

severely attention deficit, having to touch/hold things or making strange poses

with his hands, decline in school work/therapy, and making this noise with his

lips, like he is pretending to be a bumble bee. It will interrupt his speech and

he even can't control it while he is chewing his food. Also OCD with saying the

same phrase over or watching things over and over.

it's possible to have caught it while on the end absolutly, but to think that anytime you treat yeast you are going to get strep is a whole different thing

This is the way many with Tourette's Syndrome (TS) describe their tics. The

uncontrollable aspect. The build up and the inevitable release. But most have

experienced so much teasing from their peers that they don't think that it's

funny. The TS community is investigating PANDAS as a reason for their children's

TS and using antibiotics to address it.

If you research this, you will find that it is the deranged mineral transport

caused by aluminum, mercury, lead, ? that leads to bacterial and parasitic

infections. This is NOT my theory, it is truth.

I am 100% sure antibiotics are a waste of time and that you have to chelate to

resolve these problems. Why? The antibiotics do nothing to the metals...sure,

they temporarily kill the bacteria attached to the metals and built up because

of the metals, but the antibiotics don't change the fact that the metals are

still there, imbedded in tissue and organs keeping the mineral imbalance going,

creating a harvesting ground for bacteria and infections. Within a short period

of time, other bacteria and/or fungi repopulate.

My older son's tics were completely resolved with ALA chelation and I don't

think anyone could convince me that PANDAS tics are any different than the ones

he had. My younger son had a lot of OCD while on ALA, after ALA however, that

was pretty much gone too and so were his cycles of crazy behavior. Chelation is

the answer to PANDAS!

While you're working on getting the metals out,

consider http://www.ctds.info/tics.html This link talks about more magnesium

helping tics, oversensitive hearing and such. I don't know if what Ethan had

was tics, but he would suddenly for no reason let out with an ear piercing

screatch. I haven't heard it since we upped his magnesium to 800 mg/day (be

careful if you do this.. mix types..

mag gly can cause hyperactivity- we are doing 300 mag gly and 500 mag malate.

autism.com has a lot of articles on b6 and magnesium

Hope this helps

Liz,

This is interesting. How did you address the OCD from the ALA? Did he

experience the OCD only during the round, and not when he was off? Did the OCD

go away when you were done chelating?

My son lost some verbal skills during chelation with ALA. (He was fine with

DMSA as I remember.) When he loses verbal skills his frustration increases and

he either checks out or becomes hyper/aggressive. OCD is a continuing issue

that we battle daily with OLE, OoO, Inositol, and a lot of structure to keep him

from obsessing. If there is one symptom I could make go away, it would be OCD.

Liz,

Thanks for reminding me about minerals. I need to order some more. The last ones

I bought had copper, so I refuse to give to him. Are your boys both recovered??

Antibiotics are a must for us right now. Zithromax is notorious for not passing

through the gut. He becomes normal when taking them. Strep infections can cause

damage to the basal ganglia of the brain, so leaving severe cases untreated can

be very dangerous. This can lead to more psychiatric problems in the future.

But, I do feel it is very important to chelate as well. I just can't sit back

and let my son suffer because of the concept behind all his problems. We have

also chelated as well...6 mos of DMSA and almost 6 months of DMPS + ALA. He is

acaemically on track, has gained huge social skills, tons of language (speech

therapist was looking at transitioning him out), no behavioral problems at all,

but he still has some lingering issues that need to be addressed. I do plan to

move to ALA only chelation. I had it in my mind that I had wanted to do 6 mos of

DMSA then DMPS and then move onto something milder. I am happy to know that your

kids issues completely went away with ALA. I am excited to start it. By the way,

we are not doing antibiotics on a daily basis..just as needed. There is a

maintenance dose of once per week which I plan to implement. My son's tic

behavior came on around 3 yrs. of age...way before chelation. I am hoping that

treating his bacteria and underlying chelation will do the trick!

Thanks so much Connie!! He does get Kirkman's magnesium, but only half the

amount he is supposed to. I also stopped b6 a long time ago. Maybe I will try

this again. Thanks!

Hi Jen, I can remember my son had a lot of OCD to begin with and that dietary

intervention helped a little. I remember clearly though that on ALA, the OCD

would increase to the point of requiring inositol/choline to help with it. The

OCD sometimes continued after the round but eventually got less and less. In

fact, I didn't even see this happening at the time, I had to look back on it

after him being off ALA for awhile.

What brought me to figure this out was that my older son, , had tics during

ALA rounds, mostly snapping his fingers (he did this a lot before we started).

I thought it was kinda funny, but amazing at the same time that metals would

cause those kinds of things on the way out. After several rounds, he never had

tics again.

I really thought ALA was doing nothing for , at least I couldn't see it.

Recently though, I realized that a lot of my friend's kids that were on special

diets too, had never overcome their OCD as had. Then I thought about

ALA making OCD worse and how 's tics had been worse, then disappeared...it

started making sense to me, the symptoms were evident of changes going on in his

body - healing changes.

ALA chelation was definitely not a walk in the park for him either, Jen, in

fact, I admit he was miserable when I had him on too high a dose and I felt

horribly for doing it to him. (I lowered it of course) When we took a break

after going hard core for about 6 months though, the change was amazing.

This is a kid who didn't meet the counting rules for mercury (Cutler protocol),

didn't noticeably improve after every round, I just knew it was really our only

hope - he was violent, aggressive, sick, unhappy, and I had to do something. I

am just saying that now that I look back, I believe ALA was responsible for

taking care of his OCD issues and perhaps downregulating his immune system too.
