Hi -- if you're talking about drugs like Adderall or Ritilin, the answer is no.

In fact, Dr. Goldberg is adamantly opposed to the use of that type of drug in

children.

Does anyone know if Dr. G uses ADD/ADHD (psycho stimulants) type drugs along

with SSRIs?

I take 60mg/day of Adderall (on Adderall for four years) and was put on

Provigil briefly a little over a year ago.

Before I was on Adderall, I was on several differ forms of methylphenidate

(Ritalin SR, Metadate ER, Metadate CD, & Concerta).

The Adderall was originally for ADD (NOT ADHD, pet peeve, they are VERY

different), but is now for ADD (secondary) and fatigue/daytime sleepiness

(primary).

Did you have a question related to Adderall and/Provigil or CFIDS and

Adderall and/Provigil?

yes, does it help with fatigue and how much. is it hard to get a prescription

for it if you don't have add and don't live near any cfids experts who recommend

it. i was surprised to read dr. teitelbaum's recommendation along with a pretty

holistic program saying that is what helps the most and another dr. saying it is

underused as a treatment. i know it is a horror story for some because of side

effects and possibilitity for addiction.

For people who have ADD, it isn't addictive at all. That's why

non-compliance is a real problem with ADD, people forget to take their

meds:-)

If you take a serious look at the safety profile of stimulants, especially

Dex, it has a better record than paracetamol (Tylenol to the uninitiated

:-) ) The bad press is largely confected by the flatearthers concerned about

their market share being eroded by effective medication.

PS My pet peeve is the fact that ADD is the DSM3 description, ADHD is the

DSM4 description of the same disorder :-)

He takes a moderate dosage---that is the limit of my knowledge. He takes it

twice a day---IF he remembers :) He's tried taking a vacation from the med,

but hates his distracted self during those times. Your right, he's probably

tired more then acknowledge----he's one of those people who just keeps going, no

matter what!!! I've tried to help him pace-----not an easy thing for a true ADD

person. He was diagnosed at age 58-------now74. What a difference in our world

when he started the meds.

God Bless,

Yes it helps tremendously with my energy. I take 20mg about 10 AM. I start to

wind down around 6:30 pm. Without it I would not be able to get out of bed.

With it I have a " somewhat normal " day and am able to do basic stuff I need to

get done, run errands, laundry etc. I was extremely fatigued when I went on

it 6 yrs ago. Everything Ihave read says it is not addictive. Once when I

changed drs I went without it for a week. The only thing that happened was

fatigue came back and I could not get anything done. I had to creep through the

day Another benefit I have noticed is it gives me a very subtle lift to my

spirits, nothing like an antidepressant I just notice I dont get bogged down in

dark thoughts when taking it. It is true if my body is having a really bad day

with an increase in fatigue adderall is not powerful enough to override it, but

on a day with normal fatigue it works great. I also have severe day time

sleepiness and when that hits me I have to have a quick nap/lie down, maybe 30

mins until it lets up........even with the adderall. It has been a life saver

for me. Perhaps I would have more energy that lasted longer on a higher dose but

I dont want to push my body that hard with artificial methods......I am ok with

it the way it is just a little push.

About 6 years ago, during my ongoing efforts to find relief from long-

term ME/CFS symptoms, I was Rx'd Adderall. I took it for about 2 days.

It didn't help my concentration much. And it made me feel wired, but

not energetic in a good way. For my body, it just felt *wrong*. I

dislike the result so much I discontinued it shortly after starting.

My 2 cents' worth,
