label is using the amount of total HCl, while mine is using the amount of total

Betaine HCl, and most of the mass comes from the Betaine?

I started with one in each meal, and in my last I used two. I'll try working

up one capsule at a time over this week to test it out.

I'm hoping it will help fix some long-term digestive problems I've never

gotten fixed. I've been on and off Primal Defense too, which seems to help me a

lot. (A week on it and my stools are much healthier.) I'm figuring since I

definitely have some gut issues that seem to involve dysbiosis to at least some

degree, it's likely I have deficient HCl, which is often part of the problem,

because it allows harmful microorganisms to pass through the stomach. So I

hear.

i take the max dose, which is the 7 mg capsule. But i built up to

that with the smaller (1mg) tablets. You take one after each meal the first

day, then two the second day and so on until you feel a little burning. When

you feel that burning you revert back to the dosage from the day before.

After taking 7 mg for about six months i'm starting to notice it's too much

and i need to decrease. Thanks for the tip about supplementing for gastric

secretions. If you know other herbs/supplements i would be interested. I

think i have an herbal detox concoction that has slippery elm. Looks like i

should brew it.

I don't know what I did with your notes, but I just found Dr. Rind's

handout. In addition to slippery elm he lists:

DGL

Primal Defense

saccromyces boulardii, (FLorastor)

HCL and digestive enzymes, especially pancreatin

Whenever I take Biogest (HCl and pancreatin) I usually take just one.

i'm probably just recalling the amount incorrectly. Anyway, there is

a maximum dose that is close to 7 something, so maybe that's your 648.

That's the capsule (at least with the Biotics brand). HCl has done amazing

things for my digestion that no other supplements could. Let's just say

constipation is a thing of the past for me, wheeee. When i get a chance i

will look up the dosages of my tablets and capsules.

Hi

I have been taking the Betaine HCL for a couple of months now.

I have been able to decrease the amount I take and am now down to 1

with smaller/less dense meals and sometimes 2 with heavier meals.

I've noticed too that if I add some pungent spices to a meal (such as

cayenne) I don't need as much of the Betaine, or none at all.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I have just started taking it. I took with my evening

meal yesterday, and got a slight burning. Then today

I've had a discomfort in my stomach all day. Could

this be related to an overdose of the HCl?

I normally take 2 and don't feel a thing - I did have

a vinegar dressing on my salad that evening though -

could this have been an acid overdose?

Thanks

Jo

I take 6-9 Pure Encapsulations capsules per meal depending on the size of

the meal. Each capsule contains 520mg of betaine HCl.

Damn, I really wish I'd been able to attend.

If you can post your notes, or at least the high points, I'd appreciate it.

I just looked at my capsules and they contain 700 mg of betaine HCl. I take

one of those with heartier meals. With lighter meals I get the burning

sensation.

, you take a lot! I thought the stomach only produced 700 mg and you

shouldn't take more than that.

Well, the dosage of each pill includes the weight of the betaine, which is

much greater than that of the HCl fraction, so I'm actually getting much less.

It doesn't sound like my ND is aware of this. She said one 700 mg capsule is

equal to what the stomach makes.

Bee,

I've been re-reading your posts on HCL supplementation. I am at 10 pills

and still get no burning.

On this diet, will your body's own ability to secrete HCL eventually return

to normal? It looks like you say sea salt aids in that healing process.

Anything else that would be helpful?

+++Hi

What digestive problems do you have, i.e. acid reflux, food in your stools that

is intact and not digested, constipation, ulcers ?

Bee,

No acid reflux. There is food in the stool, but I don't know what it is.

I'm assuming it's fat since I'm as thin as a rail and have no body fat. A

stool test also indicated this some years ago - as well as problems I have

with dry hair and dry eye.

I do sometimes get an upset stomach an hour or two after eating.even with

the HCL.

+++Hi

It is not fat in your stool that you are seeing, instead it is mucus which looks

like fat and can be in globs, balls, stringy, etc. and may be white to clear in

color. So that is not undigested foods.

If you were not consuming the right kinds of fats like I recommend you could

have hat fats in your stools years ago since bad fats are more like plastic that

your body has to get rid of somehow.

Having an upset stomach now and again doesn't mean you must take HCl since it is

common to get an upset stomach as a detoxifying symptom, and also because your

body still is working on balancing out hormones it uses for digestion.

When you get an upset stomach take 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda mixed in 4-5

ounces of chlorinated water and just sip it until your stomach settles down.

All the best, Bee

Hi Bee,

I've been very busy but also reading your replies every day.

You did mean non-chlorinated water, right?

*** Hi Chris. Bee has a lot on her mind right now so I'm pretty sure she would

want you to use UNchlorinated water.
