Is it normal for me to be on nebulizer 4x a day, and pulmicort respules 2x a day for the last 2 months. I have no idea, is my asthma or treatment seem severe?

My peak flows are 350 tops and 120 lows.

My throat keeps swelling closed, not much coughing and such. Sometime I wake in middle of night and have to use emergency inhaler every 2 or so hours. Some days the nebulizer and pulimcort control my swelling problems through the night.

Sometimes my nose/sinuses swell closed, not much cogestion just closing up on me.

I think I am allergic to something just can't figure it out. Any ideas or info for me.

I have no ideas what is going on. And I don't know much about asthma or treatments.

Thanks, Lynne

Paritek makes a really good one that has been recommended by a few people here. You can get it with a battery pack or a d/C adapter for the car. Heres a link below that describes it....http://dhmedical.com/newpatrspone.html?gclid=CI3-v5XyzqUCFc9a7Aodelvolg

Small Travel Size Nebulizer

I have a 5 year old with severe EA"s. He is on SIngulair and Zrytec and is well controlled. Periodically when exposed to , too many pollens or animals, or when the weather gets cold, We have to use his nebulizer. Problem is I have this huge one i use a home. I need a small car A/C chargeable or travel size one. I would like a recomendation before i buy one that works well. We go camping alot in the summer. And travel out of state to family in the winter. A small hand held size would be super, if it was powerful enough or not gonna fall apart.Any one have any brands they would recommend.Live a great life, Cheri

If you havent already, Id get allergy tested. If you havent, I would also get in with the doc to get some follow ups done. I dont know how long the pulmicort should last, but it doesnt sound like the current plan of action is working too well right now. If you are new to asthma, you might need to try some different combinations of meds until you find the right one that works for you. Either way, Im pretty sure you need to go see your doc soon. Make sure you tell him everything you said here...

Lynne, when I was first diagnosed with asthma I was started on Azmacort. Later

I was changed to Pulmicort. Both are steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs to help

relieve the cause of the swelling and irritation. Along with that I was also

started on a short-acting bronchodilator, albuterol. Probably that's what's in

your nebulizer, or a similar drug to dilate your airways. I was told to use the

albuterol first, wait 20 minutes for it to open my airways as much as it was

going to, and then, when the airways were opened wider, to use the Azmacort. I

could also use the albuterol a couple of extra times through the day on an as

needed basis, but I was not to exceed the twice daily dose on the steroid

inhaler.

This might help your understanding of what the two meds are supposed to be doing

for you. The one kind acts to open your airways to ease your breathing and help

more of the other one get to where it needs to be to relieve your inflammation.

I agree that if you're still having problems, it's time to get back with your

doctor and let him/her know. You may need to be switched to other meds taht

could be more effective for you. There are combination inhalers like Advair and

Symbicort that include a steroidal anti-inflammatory and a long-acting

bronchodilator in the same dose, so you don't have to take as many doses through

the day and can still use a short-acting brochodilator on an as needed basis.
