Everyone who is havin breathing probs, you need to know about

N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC).

It dramatically helps breathing problems, especially if you take it with

vitamin C

Take at least 1.5 grams a day, in 3 500 mg doses.. or more..

They are giving it to the 9-11 survivors.. it helps detoxify the lungs..

Quercetin helps too.. lots of things help.. But NAC is a biggie..

You need to take it several times a day..

I am on all of that except for the NAC. Dr. Cheney says it can make you

suicidal. Know him??? He is a CFS guru and is keeping me alive.

My breathing problems started after repair work was done in our attic

where the mold was located (long story). It scared me enough that

when my doctor told me to leave, I did.

I suppose I do have asthma, but I am in denial. I cannot use inhalers

or any of the oral meds due to adverse reactions. The only thing

which helps somewhat is Xopenex, which used to be only for nebulizers

but recently came out in an inhaler. What helps most is allergy shots

from an environmental doctor. His treatments have helped to improve

my immune system.

I am slowly healing, but mold, and sometimes pollen, exposure

triggers breathing issues for me. Thus, avoidance is also important.

When necessary I use a mask. A source I like is icanbreathe.com.

Can I find this in a heath food store? I am ready to try something

different. I am so sick of the nebulizer and steriod inhalers (which

is bad for the waist line). I use singular but it makes me so lazy

and tired so I only use it when I feel I am going to die from lack of

air. I was thinking today it is time to make a climate change! I

always feel better when I am by the sea. That salt air really does my

breathing good!

One of my doctors recommended NAC several years ago but I don't

remember her mentioning Vitamin C. I am fortunate to now have a

doctor who oversees the many supplements I take. Thus, I feel safe

trying new things because he is " captain " of that ship. He prescribed

magnesium glycinate for my asthma. I will ask him about NAC.

Jane, I've never seen anything saying anything even remotely like that.

Could you get more information? Is it possible that you are confusing

something else with NAC?

BTW, group, reading back through my last post I think it might have sounded

a bit hard. I'm really sorry if I did.

I hate to state the obviouse here but you should leave the house. I too

developed breathing problems in my moldy house and I can tell you that

these symptoms can become permanent-you are not garranteed to recover

after finally leaving the toxic environment-you maybe looking at never

being able to put your health back together-It is allways the same on

this board-trying to convince people how dangerouse it is to stay in a

toxic environment. After they are out they become universal proponents

of leaving as fast as possible

,

You are so right. There are many here on the board such as ourselves who have

been out for years. My daughters asthma only got worse after leaving until we

learned how to control it. This goes for many. I really don't know of many

here that have recovered from exposure. For some their health has gotten worse.

It is very hard to convince people how dangerous it is. I think all of us know

someone we wish would listen. Very kind of you to take the leap and encourage a

member to leave their home to safeguard their health.

When I saw a show that was on Discovery Times Channel on the 9-11 survivors

the symptoms that they had (and the way they were walking, breathing,

talking etc.) looked a lot like mold illness.. and the difficulties that

they are having in having their health problems taken seriously are similar

too..

Which makes me think that the worst part of the problem is with the way the

system deals with things like this.. because clearly, people who were at

'Ground Zero' are going to have health issues.. but still they have been

having to fight for medical coverage, etc. (many have been laid off their

jobs because of illness - they can't work - and then they lose medical

coverage not just for them but also for their families..)
