TENS units

Hi Diane,

My EPIX/VT TENS unit came from EMPI, Inc.

<http://www.empi.com/>

599 Cardigan Road

St. , Minnesota

55126-4099

Local: (651) 415-9000

Toll-free: 1-888-FOR-EMPI

It was " prescribed " by my doctor and I understand that is

the only way a patient can get one. It was part of the

prescription she gave me to take to the physical therapy

clinic. I was told, too, that it's covered by insurance.

A web search for TENS will reveal other manufacturers.

They can be rather pricey:

$115/month to rent

$725.00 to purchase outright

(according to what is written on my invoice)

I'm sure hoping our insurance covers the majority

of this because it does seem to help reduce the pain.

Hope this gets you what you need,

Her doctor recommended a TENS unit. Does anyone know

>where you can buy/rent one and how much it would cost.

I got my TENS unit through my doctor. It's a small handheld one. I think I

paid about US$300. It runs on a 9V battery...

It's really been a lifesaver, esp for my knees, it really helps the pain.

Since my financial situation was esp bleak at the time, and my insurance

refused to pay; my doctor allowed me to make payments on it over time as he

knew I really needed it right away.

Good luck! Christie

Sally,

In physical therapy, prior to back surgery, they used a TENS unit on me

to help relieve pain. I had ice cold packs underneath me first. It did

help with the pain tremendously, since this was done in a controlled

environment and under supervision, I did not experience " overwork

weakness " - quite the opposite, as I was left in a private, darkened

room for about an hour, had plenty of time to rest, let the

back " chill " (lol) and I meditated. Always felt great after those

treatments.

I have had a severe lower back problem for many years.

I had spine fusion of L/4 L/5 S1 in 2003. I have a

tens unit and I use it when the meds don't give me

enough relief. What the unit does is confuse the

nerves in the affected area. This does not allow the

nerves to transmit pain to the brain (so says my Doc)

it does work, but it can be annoying to wear. If the

patches get a little loose it can feel like a elec

shock. I would try it what could be the harm? I use

mine at least 5 times a month.
