About feet and legs swelling:

For those of us that have poor circulation and deal with swelling I would

like to share some information with you that my father has learned about.

Both my dad and I suffer from poor circulation and from swelling of the legs

and feet. Like the swelling usually goes down by morning and it starts

all over, when I take my shoe's off at night it looks as if I'm still wearing

them because of the swelling.

My dad started getting red blotchy spots on his legs and if he got a sore it

wouldn't heal. The doctors told him the blotchy spots was where the skin has

broken down because of the years of swelling. It was recommended that he

wear the elastic stockings to keep the swelling as minimal as possible....

However, my dad's hands don't allow him to put his own stockings on so my Mom

does it for him. Needless to say, now when my feet and legs start swelling I

reach for the elastic stockings also and my hubby helps me put them on.

Please, if you suffer from this - invest in the elastic stockings, you can

get them in any pharmacy or get a prescription from your physician to get a

pair ( my insurance paid for me 2 pairs. )

My dad waited to long and now he suffers horribly whenever he gets a sore on

his leg (with the tissue so thin it happens often.)

Gretchen thank you for the information concerning the chat room. I have

another question for our CMT friends. Does anyone have the sensation their

feet

are swelling on the inside and no evidence of swelling on the outside?

Sometimes my feet feel like they are going to burst.

Hi ,

I get that every day at work. About half way through the day and my sneakers

start to feel so tight on my feet I can't stand it. I don't know if my feet

are actually swelling but I can't wait to get my shoes off when I get home.

Unfortunately, walking barefoot causes me pain too. But the Indian in me

requires that I don't wear shoes at home. :)

Hi Elaina...

I don't wear shoes at home either. Before I had my operations I couldn't

go barefoot, my feet wouldn't go flat on the floor. Wonderful to be

shoeless......

Do you experience swelling in your feet? By the end of the work day mine are

I have seen that alot. I even have a sister in law with one behind her

knee and nothing can be done about it. Except put a screen in the artery to keep

the clot from going to your chest. Gloria

Yeah, sorry to just throw that out there. He went the straight

allopathic route which was pretty brutal (any faith I had in the

medical system was really shattered after watching that fiasco).

There's a lot out there to be done about blood clots that's more sane,

though, so if it turns out to be that don't feel all is lost.

One thing a lot of people take as an alternative to coumadin (sp?), a

blood thinner with a slate of side effects, is either natto beans or

an extract of some enzyme in natto. Natto is long-fermented soy that

seems to have a pretty strong blood thinning effect. Someone did

studies with rates of clotting difficulties on long airplane trips

when people had eaten natto in the morning, if I remember, and it

reduced the problem a lot. Some people can't find it, don't want to

make it, or are disgusted by its weird slimy stickiness and opt for

the extract (nattokinase or somesuch). The extract might also help

you avoid eating soy every day if that seems a little scary.

I guess you can also avoid Vitamin K or some specific form of it which

tends to thicken the blood.

I'm sure there are lots of other things that could be done too. But

I'd think if you're not feeling pain in the legs or getting very tired

by walking/running/etc, it wouldn't be clots. So says the total

non-expert.

I think if you have blood clots in your feet/ankles they would be ulcerative and

look red and blotchy. I also know that a lot of that can be helped with a good

colon cleanse. But just swelling would most likely be poor circulation which

might be caused from salt. Like I said I have not problem with water retention

or swelling until I eat processed table salt. I can eat tons of celtic sea salt

and don't swell or retain water at all. Also MSG does it. I would get off all

processed salt and any msg, drink a lot of water to flush the system and see

what happens.

actually that's not always true. You can have blot clots and not be like that.

My mother hand them for 8 years and never once had red or ulcerative. Gloria

My friend's feet didn't look ulcerative or blotchy really. In fact,

the doctors at first proclaimed it a pinched nerve in the lower back

and started handing out pain pills and cortizone shots. The clots

were in the upper thighs, so they affected more than just the ankles

and feet (which were the only parts that swelled a lot, as I remember

it).

Is this you with the swollen feet? Is it sudden? Has it happened

before? " feet swelling up like balloons " sounds quite alarming. Any

shortness of breath?

Not in a position to diagnose, child, but I associate it with

congestive heart failure.

It happened last year when the weather got hot. I sit basically ALL day long in

IIRC, CoQ10 is supposed to be very helpful for that.

You'll probably want to prop your feet up.

Another group was just discussing vitamin C restoring the elasticity

of the blood vessels so that the plaque clears out ( I'm getting

you an article about how plaque in arteries is an attempt by the body

to shore up weak arteries, not a problem with cholesterol!)

Evidently, taking 2 grams of ascorbic acid (or one of the ascorbates)

a day is supposed to restore the elasticity of the vessels and remove

the plaque so that all blockages, etc... get cleared.

I had a friend who had a swelling problem and said it was a lymph

drainage issue. The only thing I know about lymph is that jumping on

a rebounder daily is supposed to help it flow, as is riding in a car;

I have no idea if it would help with swollen feet.

I have a history of bloodclots & my feet & legs swell. Your legs have to be

propped above your heart.

What works for me is laying on the floor with my feet at 12 oclock on the wall

for 10-15 min.

For years, I had the same problem. It first showed up after long

plane trips, but as I got older, I would get ankle swelling on hot

days at work, sitting at the computer. But when I really started

being maybe 90% strictly NT, it stopped happening. Whenever I eat

restaurant or processed food, though, my ankles will swell a little

again. I imagine it's the regular salt and/or MSG, or any number of

additives that must do it, and I think it's only when I am strictly

off all additives that my ankles don't swell up.
