For severe deficiency in 8 years and older, 100,000 IU ORALLY daily

for 3 days, followed by 50,000 IU ORALLY for 2 weeks. Follow up

therapy, 10,000 to 20,000 IU daily for 2 months.

Single oral doses over 25,000 can cause acute toxicity. Take in

divided doses. Use caution in pregnancy (doses over 10000 IU not

recommended).

Zinc deficiency often accompanies Vit A deficiency. If someone has

Vit A deficiency, I would also evaluate levels of other fat soluble

vitamins.

Do you recommend the dry form of A (due to possible malabsorption of

gel/oil-based vites), and retinol vs. beta carotene?

Also, I've read that zinc gluconate or zinc amino acid chelate are

better absorbed in RNY pts than zinc oxide. Would you have any info

on that?

Thanks,

Ava
