Re: FISH test-Vicki

Hi Vicki,

Do you have any blood tests prior to your CML diagnosis that would

show what a normal white count is for you? I know the normal range

is usually between 4 and 11 for most people but there are some people

who naturally have a bit higher than that and are perfectly fine. I

know someone who has CML and her white count never got below 14 yet

she is in CCR and doing great. The white count isn't always

indicitive of what is going on with you CML wise, you really need to

have a BMB or at least a FISH to know how your CML is doing.

Take care,

Tracey

Thanks for responding, Tracey: I had BMB to make diagnosis when

counts started to rise and got as high as 39K, and it was definitely

Philadelphia chromosome positive. I probably had FISH then too, but

just didn't get the results from my Dr or if I did I can't remember--

blanked it out or something--

My doctor is looking for me to get below 10 as a good normal level to

shoot for, WBC-wise. I know I am just probably feeling depressed

because of the shock of the CML diagnosis and all, and it is likely I

am progressing just fine treatment-wise. It is just that I hear about

people whose counts are totally normal after two months on Gleevec,

and I wonder if maybe I should be on a higher dose or something--I

guess I feel a bit helpless,in addition to not feeling really that

great physically! I have really had a difficult time with absolutely

wringing wet (need to change my clothes) type drenching sweats

multiple times each day--even though my white counts didn't ever get

all that high--and I am still having them! They make me feel

exhausted and sick in a weird way. My doc says they are " malignancy

related sweats " and that they might not go away for a while--until

all my leukemia-related stuff has normalized.

So, I take it a day at a time and try to let my dogs and my kids and

my sweet husband take my mind off my troubles. Things could be so

much worse, and I do recognize that for sure!
