Perhaps. But you can make cll worse by boosting the immune

system too much. Back in Dec. 1999, before I knew I had cll,

I had a nasty cold virus and took Maitake D-fraction

mushroom extract super strength at $90 an eyedropper bottle.

I went to bed with tiny lymph nodes in my neck and awoke to

the shock of having massive growth of the neck nodes

overnight, and many new ones. I was horrified. Looking

back, I know that I boosted the cll.

The immune system has many, many components.....

supplements cannot call all of them into action....

My understanding is that use of immune stimulating supplements

if you have leukemia or lymphoma is very controversial, because

they may stimulate the source of the cancer...many supplements

increases the proliferation of white blood cells ONLY....

Many patients with solid cancers use " combined immune support

formulas " but leukemia patients are different....

Also, chronic stress, chronic inflammation, disrupted

circadian rhythms depress immune function....diet and lifestyle

can help the immune system..

It is generally a good idea to take amoxicillin before dental work, as a

potential infection can also harm you if you have mitral valve problems - I used

to have to do this even before the CLL -

And that, my friends, is what it's all about - don't mess around with things

you do not understand, and risk making yourself worse, just because aunt

said it's good for you -

Besides, a question that I have always had, if we have a disease of the immune

system why would we want to boost the immune system?

You can't strengthen the bodies defences. The immune response is a collaboration

of many different types of cells. One of the main players are white blood cells

and in CLL many are defective at doing there jobs.

You can however improve you overall health; loose excess weight, eat well...no

junk food, and exercise daily. This will help to maximize the health you do

have.

I think we should consider supporting the immune system

instead of boosting it, by doing what Carla suggested, a

healthy diet, exercise, supplements that are not super-

sized, i.e. taking just a regular old B complex supports

your body. I worry about people who throw everything but

the kitchen sink in mega-quantities at cll hoping to get rid

of it; it's not that simple. Cll is very complex and very

much different for each individual. Weird, far-out

supplements will not get rid of cll. I write this based on

communicating with many cll friends over the years, plus my

own experience. Another thing I took that I regret was a

natural hormone supplement for menopausal women with

genistein in it; it also caused nodes to go up.

That's the $64 million dollar question. IMHO, take what you

think will help you in quantities not greater than

recommended. There's the factor of the placebo effect,

that, believe it or not, can have a huge influence on you

psychoneuroimmunologically. The supplements I take are

different from yours with the exception of CoQ10 and D3. I

take supplements that I believe are grounded in anecdotal

reports that they help cll. Case in point: Dr. Gerald

Marti of NIH (who just retired this summer) and I

corresponded, and he told me that he had 2 men in their

clinical trial called " The natural history of cll, " whose

WBCs dropped by about 100 and I asked why, and he said it

was because they took Viagra. Well, I researched and found

that Viagra boosts nitric oxide which opens blood vessels

(in the men, in their you-know-whats). So, I wondered what

else would boost nitric oxide (a naturally occuring

substance, nothing alien), and discovered the amino acid L-

citrulline (which, incidentally, also helps the heart). So,

I've been taking that, in modest quantities. To each his

own. Everything that I take I believe helps me live longer

without tx.. If you are truly interested in other stuff I

take, email me off-list.
