All of the items you listed increase metabolism or detoxing. I would concentrate on trying to clean up your "environment" and then build it up.

Lithium raises BP and cause diabetes. I took this med for about 3 weeks and quit it. My sugars were always in the 70's and they shot up to 190. I don't even do sugar and the side effects of this medication for me was unacceptable. The stuff is poison. It also cause weight gain and a host of other problems. Just not worth it in my eyes. from IllinoisFrom: baxrox <baxrox@...>iodine Sent: Wed, December 29, 2010 10:43:02 AMSubject: Re: iodine intolerance

How interesting! I had just read on drugs.com under "interactions" that lithium and iodine "May have synergistic hypothyroid activity; may result in hypothyroidism." (now there's a familiar caution...)

But your post had me curious and a quick search for lithium and iodine brought up this result where it talks about the combination of lithium and radioactive iodine being used for thyroid cancer: http://medicalcenter.osu.edu/PatientEd/Materials/PDFDocs/dis-cond/cancer/lithium-iodine-therapy.pdf.

Certainly not suggesting anyone use radioactive iodine!! ... just an observation about the role of lithium combined with iodine, how it is described to help iodine stay present in the body longer.

Dr. has an excellent write up about Lithium Orotate on his website for those wanting more information about this mineral.

Thank you for correcting me on that. The synthetic crap is nothing but evil. I quit taking conventional medicine. I would love to get off my Pentasa but I haven't been able to tolerate LDN. LDN is like liquid speed. Kills my stomach, I'm in the bathroom for hours with watery stool, I usually am anyways, but this was far more worse and then I starting vomiting. I even started out at .25 of a ml. I may try again decreasing the dose further down. I want LDN to work so maybe I can get off the Pentasa. But I refuse to be bouncing off the walls when I do that pretty much on my own.But what a buzz. Unlimited energy and the sweating was awful too. Just my luck. Thank God iodoral doesn't do that too me. from IllinoisFrom: Dr. Loretta Lanphier <drlanphier@...>iodine Sent: Wed, December 29, 2010 11:33:29 AMSubject: RE: Re: iodine intolerance

I can second the recommendation for apple cider vinegar being helpful

for lowering blood pressure. It's my bottom number that's always

somewhere in the 90s. Despite all the cleaning up of diet and lifestyle

I've accomplished in 5 years, acv seems to be the only thing that really

works. The only problem for me is I can't stand the smell or taste of

it. I got a small pyrex measurer that holds 2 ounces and use it for

shots. First shot water, second shot acv, 3-5 water. This makes a

combined total of one cup.

I've been using unrefined salt for well over a year now. I did not

observe that it helped my bp improve at all.

I take lithium orotate-- it is a targeted tiny dose compared with the

lithium supplements given in the psych world. The orotate takes it

directly into the cells. Lithium is actually an essential mineral. It

removes toxins from the brain, both from the outside (such as aluminum and

other heavy metals) and toxic metabolites from healthy brain function

(leftover products from brain functions). Dr suggests this tiny

dose to prevent Alzheimer's and dementia-- the studies he cites are

amazing. Since I've been taking it, my brain fog is a thing of the past in

a new way. Iodine cleared it, but lithium has been crystallizing my

abilities. I make my living as a kind of technical writer, so I'm very

aware of changes in my cognitive processes.

Oh-- And it's never had a negative effect on my thyroid function (I have

Hashi's). In fact, I've lost 20 or more pounds without really trying,

because my thyroid/metabolism is finally adequately treated (iodine

protocol, adrenal support).

Here is the site I was trying to find and couldn't:

http://mysite.verizon.net/res003jh/lithium-orotate/id13.html

As I said, I feel the lithium orotate (10mg elemental iodine per day, some

people only take 5mg) has been an important adjunct to the iodine protocol,

for me. The reason it helps people as a psych drug, it seems, is because

it clears the brain of toxins, both naturally occurring and from the outside.

Dr has been prescribing this tiny dose of lithium since the 1970s as

an anti-aging supplement. I found out about it here on this list.

Lithium is one of those minerals that is hard to obtain from food because

of demineralization of the soils-- but you can search the net for

info. Unlike some people, I prefer to have a baseline of certain

supplements because of this problem. Absolutely, biochemistry influences

intellectual ability.

I'm interested to hear the results of your further tests. How much iodine

are you taking per day? And are you doing the other companion supplements?

Since i have gone gluten free that cleared the brain fog. You may want to try that. It has helped me. Also cleared up the depression and skin problems.Just a suggestion. from IllinoisFrom: <r_long@...>iodine Sent: Wed, December 29, 2010 6:05:54 PMSubject: Re: iodine intolerance

Hello ,

I also work with my mind and notice how my biochemistry influences my intellectual abilities. I have never had any good long term results with ginkgo, however, so far vinpocetine has been better.

Can lithium can be obtained from food sources ? And will it give results similar to taking it as a supp ?

I am after clarity of thought and ability to synthesize information. Vitamin D, I must say, seems to be helping. I have started slowly with painting tincture of iodine on my foot 3 days on / 3 days off... that is strangely very powerful. Since my thyroid meds have been cut in half, I will be taking another blood test shortly. Normally I only undergo bloods once a year. Should be interesting. This time the iodine/iodide which will factor in may influence the results.

How much lithium do you take, ? I was taking it for awhile but backed off due to what I thought were potential thyroid interactions.

Thanks,

Barb-- I take 10mg of elemental lithium a day. I would believe that the

pharmaceutical levels of lithium supplementation could interfere with

thyroid, but not such a low amount. In my case my hypothyroid has vastly

improved (based on my symptoms) and I've lost a lot of weight. I had also

developed what are for me heavy calluses on my heels and elbows, and those

have disappeared now. So I know that my thyroid function is better than

ever. I'm not saying my own thyroid is working, but the combination of

supplements, including the iodine protocol and 3 grains of NatureThroid a

day, has finally kicked in and given me back the kind of metabolism I had

as a child.

You are lucky that you have figured out the right balance. I'd kill to have my thyroid up to snuff. It seems no matter what I do, it's a moving target. Some days my dose is too much, some days too little. I feel like Goldilocks!!!

Take care,

BarbF

It sounds so wonderful and too good to be true lol!!! I'm just wondering how long has it taken you to recover ? Several years? I'm hopeful for myself and others I know that are discovering iodine and REAL thyroid treatment. Thank you for living it and encouraging others!Tammy On Dec 30, 2010, at 11:40 PM, Baker <vbaker@...> wrote:

Re: iodine intolerance

Hi It would seem that lithium orotate (not sure about other forms) are not available OTC in Canada. Rats. You mention calluses. I have always had ridiculously thick skin on my feet and heels. Does this indicate something? Will Iodine help?Jaye> > > >How much lithium do you take, ? Jaye,

I don't know how viewed her foot calluses, but many folks

consider that buildup as a storage place where the body tries to

wall off excess toxins it can't otherwise get rid of -- which means

iodine would definitely play a part -- perhaps the major part -- in

their disappearance.

The thick skin on hands and feet is a sign of candida, yeast overgrowth, and is a form of athletes foot. Treat your hands and feet for athlete’s foot, and I would look into clearing the candida from your body.
