Re: What is the right lugol's on breast painting? 5% or 2%?

Jen,

You can paint as much and as often as you like if you mix the 5%

Lugol's with oil. I use coconut oil with iodine (mixed to a dark

rich rust red) every day except one day a week when I'm at home and

can use deep penetrating -- but sticky -- castor oil. The c.o.

absorbs quickly without staining or showing. I use it the combo

freely on sensitive areas such as my face.

I am painting 5% lugol's on my breast. It is quite

irritated. After a couple of weeks, my skin always peels

off. It is quite painful when applying on the new skin.

The 5%lugol is too strong for breast painting?

Thanks,

Jen

Jen-- are you painting for breast issues? You might want to stop, let your

skin heal, and then continue with 's recommendation. You might want

to use coconut oil applied to the skin to help you heal, it is wonderful

for the skin.

,

cancer or for some other reason?

This may be TMI for you, but . . . Most of the actinic keratosis

(possible precursor to skin cancer) I have is on my lower arms and

the backs of my hands, but I also have a couple of tiny spots on my

nose that have not been healing. (Occasionally I will dose those

spots directly with iodine.) and my lower lip is also affected at

times (peeling). But, in general, my face has always been a

problematic area. I had acne from puberty all the way up to my

fifties when it turned into rosacea and I also developed blethitis

on my lash area of my eyelids. For many years now (I'll be 72 next

week), I've had swollen, dry eyes at night and swelling in the

morning of the lids and bags below. The right side of my face is

particularly "at risk" with a decades-long infected tonsil, loss of

hearing in the right ear and a swollen right side of my tongue.

But - after that horrendous portrait -- I must add that I have nary

a wrinkle, the awful dark enlarged pores I once had have disappeared

with the right diet and lifestyle (the last 8 years), my cheeks are

rosy, and I sometimes actually get compliments on my complexion. :)

And I have seen definite improvement on almost all my symptoms since

adding the "paint" treatments (which I also stick into my right

ear!) and I'm only in month three. So I'm very hopeful.

I paint just about everywhere I can reach (in addition to ingesting

the stuff).

Have you had your teeth/jaw checked by a biologic dentist? I had a dead tooth (no pain or symptoms) for many years. I developed cysts in my right eye-lid, chronic sinus issues, a persistent & very painful boil inside my right ear, & the nodule on my thyroid while that infection was simmering. When the tooth was finally removed (along with a big chunk of my jaw) I realized that I could put my right hand over all those issues -- middle finger on the eyelid cyst, heel of hand over the thyroid nodule, thumb over my ear... I do think many -- perhaps all -- of my facial problems started with

bad teeth (mercury and infections).  I had the mercury removed in

the mid-eighties and I had the decaying teeth removed a few years

ago.  I did keep one root canal (that I mentioned in my previous

post to April) so that I could still chew!   Other than that one

tooth -- which may or may not be causing problems -- I think the

current issues I mention have pretty much taken on a life of their

own.

Thank-you for all this information .   Sorry to hear you've struggled with these symptoms.   How much iodine do you mix in with the coconut oil, please? On Tue, Oct 12, 2010 at 1:31 AM, West <clairewest@...> wrote:

How much iodine do you mix in with the coconut oil,

please?

I don't measure, but for a near-full body paint I can use as much as

a half dropper full and if I'm just doing face and arms, it might be

about 7 drops or so. I just add and mix and add until I get a deep

rust-red color for most external applications. If I'm doing a

vaginal application, then it's a more rust than red color as I worry

about any too-hot feeling there on the delicate tissues.

I do the mix in a tiny glass bowl with a teensy bamboo spoon (no

metal). I know some people use surgical gloves to apply, but I use

my bare hands as I'm not sure plastic is helpful and I am sure I can

use any extra iodine going into my palms.

Maybe you are just doing breasts now, but I would recommend you

include the area below your shoulders, next to the armpits and above

the breasts -- where the lymph glands are.

I painted my face this morning, just to try it.   I had iodine all over my hands.   I went out to milk the goats and they went mad, trying to lick and bite my hands where the iodine is!    Even one of the two week old kids.   I used to put seaweed mix in their feed but have been a bit slack lately, so will go back to doing that and am considering putting just a little in their water.

Hi ,

I will let my breast skin take a short break. When it gets better, I will apply

the mix of coconut oil and iodine. Will update.

It's been many decades since I read the book by Doctor Jarvis - " Vermont

Folk Medicine -- but if I remember right he had as much to say about

iodine for animals as iodine for people. If you're not sure about

amounts, you might want to check that book. And then, you might want to

up the amounts from what he recommended -- because those goats are

surely more challenged with pollution these days than their ancestors were.

This is interesting. My 18 year old daughter has a bit of acne and a bad habit of scratching it off so she has a bunch of scars now on her face. She certainly does need iodine orally for other reasons as well but I'm interested additionally ,if anyone has suggestions how to treat the acne and the scars (she compulsively scratches off the acne.Would coconut oil with iodine be a good approach and what else ?

Also what we use is detoxified iodine. Is there a difference between say lugol's and detoxified iodine when used topically  (or otherwise) ?Thank you for this wonderful forumEstairOn Mon, Oct 11, 2010 at 4:31 PM, West <clairewest@...> wrote:

Absolutely, animals need iodine. My cats drink more water when I put a few

drops of Lugol's in. --

You can also add some essential oils to the coconut oil. Just make sure to get

really pure oils. Helichrysum and incense would help with the scarring also

Geranium.

Hi Jen,

I use Iosol iodine for painting. There is no irritation and it does not stain.

I haven't tried Lugol's with coconut oil but I have tried Iosol with coconut oil

and I didn't get the same results. I applied the Iosol two different times to

areas of traumas and I had overnight success. My adrenals calmed way down after

each time. My son's left plugged sinus (Babesia) is clearing up. I ingest

Lugol's.

Dr. Derry says to cover with plastic wrap to prevent evaporation. Here is

his study on scars. He has a good discussion at the end.

Hi Joan,

Thanks for sharing your experience. Iosol seems only includs iodide, which is

good for thyroid. If it doesn't contain iodine, will it work to breast?

HI Joan,

I'm brand new to the group and was wondering where you said your adrenals calmed

way down was this due to topical application of iodine with coconut oil. Just

curious as I have had severe adrenal exhaustion and just came off hydrocortisone

2 months ago and am looking forward to trying iodine again. Tried in the past

but detox was too intense.

Thanks for any info.

No it won't. The breasts require iodine and Dr Brownstein says studies have

shown that iodiDe does not heal them.

I really wish people would just go with the Lugol's or Iodoral. There are

really good reasons for using the combination and in that ratio.

Also, I have mispoken several times recently about the amount of iodine the

body uses on a daily basis. That amount, again I just consulted Dr B's

book, is 12.5mg per day, just for physiological processes. That doesn't

give anything for detoxing the body, and the need for detox prevents

absorption of the iodine supplements. So we have to get our levels up high

in order to evict the toxins.

It does contain iodine but a synthetic form. I don't have a clue whether that

is bad or good. I have lyme brain so my memory is pretty selective.

Here is what they write about it. The amount of iodine is at the bottom. Lynne

Farrow, the moderator for the breastcancerthinktank reminded me that the hashi's

studies were actually a problem of selenium deficiency not an potassium iodide

problem.

Joan

The Importance of Iodine

Iodine is absolutely vital for the formation of thyroid hormone in the thyroid

gland. Thyroid hormone is composed of four molecules of iodine and one molecule

of the amino acid tyrosine. Scientific evidence clearly shows that a lack of

iodine can cause changes to the thyroid gland directly leading to poor function

of metabolism and immunity.* Iodine deficiency promotes free radical damage in

the thyroid gland, directly stressing the health of the gland.*

Adequate iodine is also needed to block various compounds from binding to and

accumulating in the thyroid gland (fluoride, perchlorate, goitrogens in food).

Problems with chemicals affecting the thyroid gland have been known about for

decades. A recent Russian study showed that general environmental pollution (of

which the US has plenty in every metropolitan area) significantly aggravates

iodine lack (meaning pollution displaces iodine in the human body).*

We have known for many years that free iodine is in high concentration in the

ovaries and breast tissue, acting as a protective buffer to estrogen. Adequate

tissue iodine helps guide estrogen into friendly pathways that support proper

function of female sex hormones.* Iodine also assists the proper function of

numerous hormone receptors throughout the body, thus helping hormones in general

communicate more efficiently.* The rate that any hormone is formed is governed

by thyroid hormone. Thus, thyroid nutrition like Thyroid Helper® and Iosol

Iodine contribute to the formation of testosterone. In women this supports

healthy sex drive. In men, testosterone is vital to function.*

Iodine is essential for brain function and intelligence. Since 2001 there have

been numerous studies showing the importance of iodine during pregnancy, not

only to help the mother's thyroid work better, but specifically for the

cognitive and neurological development of the child.*

The Iosol Iodine Quality Difference

Iosol Iodine is a proprietary iodine formulation that has been in widespread use

since 1945. I am often asked what the difference is between this iodine

supplement and others, and many have asked what the source of the iodine is that

is used in Iosol.

Iosol Iodine is in my opinion the premier iodine supplement on the market today.

This is because of the superior water solubility of the iodine. This feature

makes free iodide readily available for your body to use.

There are two sources of iodine in the Iosol formulation. One is from kelp.

Iodine in kelp is naturally in the form of potassium iodide. However, potassium

iodine is not very soluble in water and may be difficult for your body to easily

use. For example, if you get liquid potassium iodide on your clothes it causes a

permanent stain of red. If you get Iosol Iodine on your clothes the red will

evaporate out in a few minutes or readily come out with washing. In fact,

potassium iodide has been shown to congest the thyroid gland when taken in high

doses and is how Hashimotos thyroiditis was first discovered (Japanese citizens

consuming too many sea vegetables). This is why I don't use potassium iodide.

During the production of Iosol, iodine is extracted from kelp and made into pure

iodine crystals. This is not potassium iodide, rather it is an unbound form of

iodine.

The second form of iodine used is ammonium iodide, a form that readily dissolves

in water. These two forms of iodine are combined in a proprietary manner in a

base of vegetable glycerin.

Ammonium iodide is a combination of the mineral iodine and ammonium (NH4). This

is a synthesized compound, not derived from a food source. It has superior

bioavailability as the iodine readily disassociates from the ammonium upon

exposure to water, producing a free iodide ion exactly what your body would like

to use in metabolism.

Some people think that ammonium (NH4) sounds like some sort of toxin, compared

to potassium or sodium iodide. This is far from the case. As different from

ammonium, ammonia (NH3) is an irritant gas with a pungent odor. Anhydrous

ammonia (meaning no water in the ammonia) is the third most synthesized chemical

in the U.S., with one-third of it used by the farming industry as fertilizer and

animal feed. The ability to fix nitrogen in some type of compound is vital to

the growth of plants and crops. Many household cleaning products use ammonia in

the form of NH3 plus water.

On the other hand, ammonium is a primary source of nitrogen for humans. It is

involved in many cellular chemistry reactions necessary for health. As dietary

protein is metabolized ammonium is produced. The liver converts any extra

ammonium to urea, which is easily cleared through the urea cycle. The amount of

ammonium in Iosol can act as a nutrient in normal cell metabolism or it can

readily be cleared by the liver. The amount of ammonium in a dose of Iosol is

trivial compared to the amount of ammonium produced in routine protein

metabolism.

The bottom line is that Iosol Iodine is a very safe and effective form of iodine

to use as a dietary supplement. In my experience over the past twenty years it

has routinely produced outstanding results.

What is the dose of Iosol Iodine?

The most commonly used dose of Iosol Iodine is 1 drop of the preparation in a

few ounces of water, taken once a day. Each drop has 1.8 mg of iodine or 1200%

of the governments recommended daily value. If you would like to get only 100%

of the daily value then take 1 tsp of a mixture of 1 drop of Iosol Iodine in 2

ounces of water; however, most people like taking more than this.

Adequate iodine tends to keep your head more awake during the day, helps support

your energy level, and helps you warm up (if you are cold).* Many people take

1-5 drops of Iosol Iodine per day, using enough to feel warmer and more

energetic. While this can be taken all at once in the morning, some like to

split the dose and take some in the afternoon as well.

Some people find that taking iodine every day really helps to support

metabolism. Others find that they only need to take it once or twice a week.

Regardless of the dose used or frequency of the dose, the goal is to notice

energy support. And if you are too cold, another goal is to warm up. Iosol

Iodine is one of the best nutrients for natural thyroid support, especially

helping those who are cold to warm up and get on track.*

Caution: We have received numerous reports of people taking 25 mg to 50 mg of

potassium iodide-containing supplements each day, typically in the form of

Lugols or Iodoral. I do not support the use of this protocol as the form of

iodine used is inferior and the chance of congesting the thyroid with insoluble

potassium iodide is elevated - a needless risk to take for any person trying to

improve their health. I have never had any trouble helping people balance

thyroid function on far less iodine intake, especially when synergistic thyroid

support nutrition is used.

Ingredients & Dosage

Directions: Typical dose is 1-5 drops per day, mixed in a small amount of water.

Use enough to help warm up and sustain energy. Each drop of Iosol Iodine

contains 1.83 mg of iodine.

What is written here is full of untruths. You mentioned one-- this claims

that other iodines (not their proprietary Iosol) can cause Hashi's oh but

not their kind. Well that's just advertising to get people to buy their

product, based on the lies about iodine that are still taught in med

school. These people are selling a product and tailoring their statements

to do so.

>The Iosol Iodine Quality Difference

>Iosol Iodine is a proprietary iodine formulation that has been in

>widespread use since 1945. I am often asked what the difference is between

>this iodine supplement and others, and many have asked what the source of

>the iodine is that is used in Iosol.

>Iosol Iodine is in my opinion the premier iodine supplement on the market

>today. This is because of the superior water solubility of the iodine.

>This feature makes free iodide readily available for your body to use.

>There are two sources of iodine in the Iosol formulation. One is from kelp.

We have discussed at length that kelp is not necessarily the safest source

of iodine due to heavy metal pollution of the oceans.

>Iodine in kelp is naturally in the form of potassium iodide. However,

>potassium iodine is not very soluble in water and may be difficult for

>your body to easily use.

This is completely false. Potassium iodide is highly soluble in water,

that is where you start when making Lugol's. YOu dissolve the potassium

iodide, then add the iodine crystals which take a while to

dissolve. Iodine crystals do NOT dissolve in water, unless potassium

iodide is present first. That is how Lugol's was invented.

>For example, if you get liquid potassium iodide on your clothes it causes

>a permanent stain of red. If you get Iosol Iodine on your clothes the red

>will evaporate out in a few minutes or readily come out with washing.

This is wrong. Potassium iodide is clear. Elemental iodine is red. Iosol

washing out is of no import but may mean it has less elemental iodine.

>In fact, potassium iodide has been shown to congest the thyroid gland when

>taken in high doses and is how Hashimotos thyroiditis was first discovered

>(Japanese citizens consuming too many sea vegetables). This is why I don't

>use potassium iodide.

This has been shown to be totally false, as Joan already mentioned.

>During the production of Iosol, iodine is extracted from kelp and made

>into pure iodine crystals. This is not potassium iodide, rather it is an

>unbound form of iodine.

They start off saying kelp yields potassium iodide, now they say it yields

iodine.

>The second form of iodine used is ammonium iodide, a form that readily

>dissolves in water. These two forms of iodine are combined in a

>proprietary manner in a base of vegetable glycerin.

>Ammonium iodide is a combination of the mineral iodine and ammonium (NH4).

>This is a synthesized compound, not derived from a food source. It has

>superior bioavailability as the iodine readily disassociates from the

>ammonium upon exposure to water, producing a free iodide ion exactly what

>your body would like to use in metabolism.

This may be true, but potassium iodide is also super soluble in water.

I've spent enough time on this. imo, They are just using ammonium iodide

so they can charge more money for it, since Lugol's is something anyone can

make. Regardless, their nonfactual statements are troublesome and

contribute to confusion about iodine. Personally, I'm sticking with sources

that specialize in clarifying iodine, not muddying the waters.

--

>Some people think that ammonium (NH4) sounds like some sort of toxin,

>compared to potassium or sodium iodide. This is far from the case. As

>different from ammonium, ammonia (NH3) is an irritant gas with a pungent

>odor. Anhydrous ammonia (meaning no water in the ammonia) is the third

>most synthesized chemical in the U.S., with one-third of it used by the

>farming industry as fertilizer and animal feed. The ability to fix

>nitrogen in some type of compound is vital to the growth of plants and

>crops. Many household cleaning products use ammonia in the form of NH3

>plus water.

>On the other hand, ammonium is a primary source of nitrogen for humans. It

>is involved in many cellular chemistry reactions necessary for health. As

>dietary protein is metabolized ammonium is produced. The liver converts

>any extra ammonium to urea, which is easily cleared through the urea

>cycle. The amount of ammonium in Iosol can act as a nutrient in normal

>cell metabolism or it can readily be cleared by the liver. The amount of

>ammonium in a dose of Iosol is trivial compared to the amount of ammonium

>produced in routine protein metabolism.

>The bottom line is that Iosol Iodine is a very safe and effective form of

>iodine to use as a dietary supplement. In my experience over the past

>twenty years it has routinely produced outstanding results.

>What is the dose of Iosol Iodine?

>The most commonly used dose of Iosol Iodine is 1 drop of the preparation

>in a few ounces of water, taken once a day. Each drop has 1.8 mg of iodine

>or 1200% of the governments recommended daily value. If you would like to

>get only 100% of the daily value then take 1 tsp of a mixture of 1 drop of

>Iosol Iodine in 2 ounces of water; however, most people like taking more

>than this.

>Adequate iodine tends to keep your head more awake during the day, helps

>support your energy level, and helps you warm up (if you are cold).* Many

>people take 1-5 drops of Iosol Iodine per day, using enough to feel warmer

>and more energetic. While this can be taken all at once in the morning,

>some like to split the dose and take some in the afternoon as well.

>Some people find that taking iodine every day really helps to support

>metabolism. Others find that they only need to take it once or twice a

>week. Regardless of the dose used or frequency of the dose, the goal is to

>notice energy support. And if you are too cold, another goal is to warm

>up. Iosol Iodine is one of the best nutrients for natural thyroid support,

>especially helping those who are cold to warm up and get on track.*

>Caution: We have received numerous reports of people taking 25 mg to 50 mg

>of potassium iodide-containing supplements each day, typically in the form

>of Lugols or Iodoral. I do not support the use of this protocol as the

>form of iodine used is inferior and the chance of congesting the thyroid

>with insoluble potassium iodide is elevated - a needless risk to take for

>any person trying to improve their health. I have never had any trouble

>helping people balance thyroid function on far less iodine intake,

>especially when synergistic thyroid support nutrition is used.
