- No on the soy in the protein powder. It is a Raw Protein by

Garden of Life. There is chlorella which I have seen pros/cons of

taking it in if you still have mercury fillings. But that is all that I

can see. is the protein is from RAW organic sprouts. ~~Barb

I don't mean to go OT but the subject of GM moves me to inform you there

is Gypsy Moth *or some other bug aerial spraying to begin again in

various parts of the United States that are PROVEN to cause immune

system issues, along with asthma, skin disorders, etc. I mention this

because MY area is next in the Spring. The pesticide is Bt.k and is

bio-engineered spores, much like the ones that they shoot into corn,

soy, etc to make them resistant to insects. The spores are bad news for

just about anything - butterflies, bees, etc for a very long time. But

what harm will it do to those already suffering from our government's

involvement in food, water, air, medicines, etc. Just a head's up.

~~~Barb I for one am gonna be a big pain in the DNR's rear. NO
SPRAYING. NO. Let mother nature take care of it.
,You might want to read the article I attached about how soy is actually processed. The only safe forms of soy are fermented, like miso, natto or tempeh and in very small quantities, it's meant to basically be a garnish not for whole meals or large quantities to be consumed. What type of soy protein isolate are you using? Linn On Feb 5, 2011, at 1:39 PM, Teel wrote:
powdered form is very helpful in detoxifying and helping those who
need protein. Many people, especially our teens, are carb-holics
and do not get enough protein for their body which is trying to grow
and mature.
The company that makes this form spends millions on research and
development to prove that their products are clean from
contaminants, work, and are safe. Also, the doctor that we use for
my daughter has done a lot of studies and testing himself as he
worked in a Chiropractic teaching school and is a PhD in bio
nutritional chemistry. So there are companies out there with real
scientific studies and real results for their products. At the
moment I am only using the things they make for my daughter as her
system is toxic, low thyroid, fatigued adrenals, etc. I try to get
everything for myself from them as well, but they do not have iodine
and other ingredients we need. Our doctor does recommend and advise
to use Iodoral... His method is to take is slowly and steadily so
as not to overwhelm the body all at one time.
If you are going to use soy, I think it must be organic and
cultured, such as tofu. OR use the highly tested and safely
processed Soy protein isolate....
It's not just the interference with T4 conversion you
need to be worried about. Soybeans have the highest
Mineral deficiencies are the cause of numerous diseases.
Zinc controls iron uptake, without it, high levels of
iron can build up which harms the liver. The high levels
of enzyme inhibitors, which are not removed by processing,
block digestion not only of the soy product but of
whatever else is eaten.
Soy contains a less commonly known contaminant,
hemaglutin, which is a clot causing agent. It causes red
cells to clump together and compromises the oxygen supply
to the body, particularly bad for anyone with heart issues
or cancer. High temperature processing does not remove
hemaglutin.
Soy is high in aluminum and a by-product of one of the
steps of processing, alkaline soaking, is a known
carcinogen, lysinealine.
Soy protein isolate is a highly processed product and
totally devoid of nutrients, ending up an artificial,
devitalized commercial food. Soy protein is a by-product
of soybean oil processing and it's big business, DuPont
for one. It's a waste product made from an extremely
processed food source, successfully advertised to be a
health food. The soybean is one of America's largest
crops, we're talking billions of dollars annually. It's
byproducts are money makers, not health foods. Soy is
contained in a lot of items where you may not even think
you're eating, items labeled with vegetable flavoring,
natural flavoring, vegetable shortening, hydrolyzed
protein, textured vegetable protein, etc. Then there's
the issue of genetic modification of an already
problematic "food" and Monsanto issues with owning the
patent on the GM soybean plus the herbicide RoundUp. They
make money both ways plus they control the small farmers.
I won't even go into the issues here. We're talking
major money players here, DuPont, Monsanto, Dow Chemical,
who don't give a damn about your health or mine. This is
major marketing hype at it's best to protect billions of
dollars of income.
The science/health writer from Huffington Post article
Thanks, I am really gonna look up these things, and understand more
follow is in nutrional biochemistry so he seems very studied up, but
I like to know for myself.
Thanks,
Sure, but definitely include the link to Dr. Tim O'Shea's info. WAP also has a lot of excellent info on soy.
Lots of soy articles here:
Marcy,
It's not just the interference with T4 conversion you need to be worried about. Soybeans have the highest levels of phytic acid of any legume which upsets mineral uptake, iron, magnesium, calcium and especially zinc that are responsible for dozens of cell life functions. Mineral deficiencies are the cause of numerous diseases. Zinc controls iron uptake, without it, high levels of iron can build up which harms the liver. The high levels of enzyme inhibitors, which are not removed by processing, block digestion not only of the soy product but of whatever else is eaten.
Soy contains a less commonly known contaminant, hemaglutin, which is a clot causing agent. It causes red cells to clump together and compromises the oxygen supply to the body, particularly bad for anyone with heart issues or cancer. High temperature processing does not remove hemaglutin.
Soy is high in aluminum and a by-product of one of the steps of processing, alkaline soaking, is a known carcinogen, lysinealine.
Soy protein isolate is a highly processed product and totally devoid of nutrients, ending up an artificial, devitalized commercial food. Soy protein is a by-product of soybean oil processing and it's big business, DuPont for one. It's a waste product made from an extremely processed food source, successfully advertised to be a health food. The soybean is one of America's largest crops, we're talking billions of dollars annually. It's byproducts are money makers, not health foods. Soy is contained in a lot of items where you may not even think you're eating, items labeled with vegetable flavoring, natural flavoring, vegetable shortening, hydrolyzed protein, textured vegetable protein, etc. Then there's the issue of genetic modification of an already problematic "food" and Monsanto issues with owning the patent on the GM soybean plus the herbicide RoundUp. They make money both ways plus they control the small
farmers. I won't even go into the issues here. We're talking major money players here, DuPont, Monsanto, Dow Chemical, who don't give a damn about your health or mine. This is major marketing hype at it's best to protect billions of dollars of income.
The science/health writer from Huffington Post article cites no references to back up claims made that "may" be helpful. We've all been sold a bill of goods regarding soy. Look at info that can give you reference material for the claims. Here's a great place to start:
Particularly with low thyroid, avoiding any type of soy would be prudent. For the type of support you described and detoxing benefits, you might try un-denatured whey or non-denatured whey protein instead of the soy protein powder. Non-denatured whey will increase glutathione levels which will be beneficial for regaining adrenal health and restore the body's ability to detox and heal itself. soy is actually processed. The only safe forms of soy are
What type of soy protein isolate are you using?
nutritional protein/amino acids. This powdered
form is very helpful in detoxifying and helping
those who need protein. Many people, especially
our teens, are carb-holics and do not get enough
protein for their body which is trying to grow
and mature.
The company that makes this form spends millions
on research and development to prove that their
products are clean from contaminants, work, and
are safe. Also, the doctor that we use for my
himself as he worked in a Chiropractic teaching
for their products. At the moment I am only
using the things they make for my daughter as
her system is toxic, low thyroid, fatigued
adrenals, etc. I try to get everything for
myself from them as well, but they do not have
iodine and other ingredients we need. Our
doctor does recommend and advise to use
Iodoral... His method is to take is slowly and
steadily so as not to overwhelm the body all at
If you are going to use soy, I think it must be
organic and cultured, such as tofu. OR use the
highly tested and safely processed Soy protein
isolate....
I do, I do. I really don't like salt at all! Bleah. I drink it anyway though.
Something about salt in water makes me nauseated.
Marcy, I'd like to see your articles if you can find them. I've been interested
in the soy " problem " for awhile. I would think people on dairy-free diets would
like to have some soy. I most recently saw the anti-soy info in
Browenstein's book on thyroid disorders. One of these sites had an anti-soy
article but the link is broken or I'd send you to it.
I was doing dairy-free for awhile and was using soy products. It turns out they
were very hard on my digestive system so I gave that up in any case.
They eat fermented soy ... not soy milk, soy beans added into every darn thing, soy meat flavored stuff, etc.It is also related to how foods are combined.  One of the reasons Americans have more issues with rice.  Traditionally foods were combined in ways that made them work better.
But this is OT and a LONG conversation.JaxiOn Sat, Feb 5, 2011 at 5:57 PM, david kenna <davidjohnkenna@...> wrote:
Actually the Japanese eat very little soy, they use tofu as accents in their food. They don’t make whole meals out of soy as some vegetarian Americans do! Kathleen
I was just sharing this post with my daughter. She is an army combat medic and tells me they use hemaglutin to stop the bleeding on open chest wounds. It clots it up almost instantaneously. Now, imagine cosuming this over the course of a lifetime.
Marcy,
It's not just the interference with T4 conversion you need to be worried about. Soybeans have the highest levels of phytic acid of any legume which upsets mineral uptake, iron, magnesium, calcium and especially zinc that are responsible for dozens of cell life functions. Mineral deficiencies are the cause of numerous diseases. Zinc controls iron uptake, without it, high levels of iron can build up which harms the liver. The high levels of enzyme inhibitors, which are not removed by processing, block digestion not only of the soy product but of whatever else is eaten.
Soy contains a less commonly known contaminant, hemaglutin, which is a clot causing agent. It causes red cells to clump together and compromises the oxygen supply to the body, particularly bad for anyone with heart issues or cancer. High temperature processing does not remove hemaglutin.
Soy is high in aluminum and a by-product of one of the steps of processing, alkaline soaking, is a known carcinogen, lysinealine.
Soy protein isolate is a highly processed product and totally devoid of nutrients, ending up an artificial, devitalized commercial food. Soy protein is a by-product of soybean oil processing and it's big business, DuPont for one. It's a waste product made from an extremely processed food source, successfully advertised to be a health food. The soybean is one of America's largest crops, we're talking billions of dollars annually. It's byproducts are money makers, not health foods. Soy is contained in a lot of items where you may not even think you're eating, items labeled with vegetable flavoring, natural flavoring, vegetable shortening, hydrolyzed protein, textured vegetable protein, etc. Then there's the issue of genetic modification of an already problematic "food" and Monsanto issues with owning the patent on the GM soybean plus the herbicide RoundUp. They make money both ways plus they control the small
farmers. I won't even go into the issues here. We're talking major money players here, DuPont, Monsanto, Dow Chemical, who don't give a damn about your health or mine. This is major marketing hype at it's best to protect billions of dollars of income.
The science/health writer from Huffington Post article cites no references to back up claims made that "may" be helpful. We've all been sold a bill of goods regarding soy. Look at info that can give you reference material for the claims. Here's a great place to start:
Do you mind sharing what the product is?
Hi I've been doing lots of research into soy, because some friends who have had miraculous cures and reversals with a particular product are inviting me to take it. It is soy-based!From what I can tell so far, soy does interfere with thyroid function, but only because it uses extra iodine up in the body's processing of it. The solution, written in the Huffington post by a science/health writer, is to take your soy at a different time than your thyroid hormone, and to supplement with extra iodine. The article goes on to say that the benefits of the right kind of soy are great--genisten as anti=cancer, anti inflammatory,etc...and worth it as long as you follow the rules for avoiding soy's goitrogenic and suppressive effect.Somewhere on my desktop, I have this and another article that allay the fears of soy; I personally have been very very skeptical about soy, and am still researching. If you have articles regarding
the interference in T4 conversion, let me know!Marcy> > >> > > > > > > But my list of symptoms? Very long. My chiropractor/GP was born in Japan. She wants her patients to avoid soy because it isn't fermented and it is way too common in the food supply. She avoids it herself which was a change from her childhood. Fermented soy in small quantities was a common food. GMO and the harm that unfermented soy creates for the thyroid are 2 problems with soy and their are others. Pam
HI :
Well, i didn't save these article as well as I thought. One was in Thyroid 2006,
Vol 16, author Messina: " Effects of Soy on thyroid function... " or something close
to that.
The other was an excerpt from Life Extension Magazine on soy. It is hard copy,
copied from the magazine for me by a friend. It mostly deals with the estrogenic
effect of soy and makes a good case that soy is not associated with messing up
estrogen, but balances good estrogens..
I am still taking a whey shake 2x a day. I get it at BJ's, $30 5 lbs, all the
right amino acids. My friends swear by this soy product to cure their cancer.
Wow!
The product also contains large amounts of healing herbs, minerals,
vitamins,antioxidants,etc. It is called Reliv. It is not soy protein isolate and
is guaranteed non-GMO. Nevertheless, I am skeptical. Not sure why these friends
have seen such remarkeable turnaround in cancers when they started taking these
products. They say it is not processed soy, the kind that has the contaminants
you speak of, and I wonder if the effects of the relatively low amount of soy
per serving(7g)are countered by all the additional whole food supplements that
sre in the product. Folks also take some pretty potent other powders from the
company, with lots of herbs, and extracts, all stuff that has been mentioned
repeatedly in many cancer/disease protocols(like glutathione, ALA, many other
things).
Hmm....I took this stuff for awhile and felt pretty good, better than when I
wasn't taking it, or when I was just taking whey. Then I read about soy from
Mercola and quit it.
Thanks for your input!
