Chronic Sinus Infection/Pain

Hello to all,

I was wondering if anyone aside from myself has been suffering with

chronic sinus pressure and infections? My doctor thinks there is a

direct correlation with Reiters. I was wondering if anyone else has

had experience with this.

Thank you all,

Hi ,

We are all different with this family of spondy diseases. While I do

not have sinus infections, I do believe I have sinus and eye socket

inflammation. I use a saline spray called Sterimar from the UK to ease

my sore nose and hot packs on my eyes to relieve the pressure I feel in

my eye sockets. I sometimes just have face pain where it hurts all

over. I also use NSAID eye drops to keep my eye ball inflammation down,

I am now, thankfully off the steroid eye drops which were causing

glaucoma and cataracts. I also get relief standing in a hot steamy

shower and let the hot water run on my face.

I hope this helps.

Love,

in CA

Yes, I have this problem. I finally had surgery to " open up " my

sinuses in 2000. It helped the chronic infections, but I still get a

lot of pressure and am prone to inflammation and pain. I use

a " netty " pot every day to wash out my sinuses, followed by an

antimicrobial ointment inserted into each nostril via Q-tip. This

seems to help; I've had only one bona fide sinus infection since the

surgery.

In my case, the sinus problems came before RA. My MD also thinks the

sinus problems are part of the whole gestalt.

My Rheumy feels that allergies are part of the whole immune system gone crazy

part of these diseases. I had sinus surgery almost two years ago and it was the

best thing I ever did. I had chronic sinus infections since I was about 18 and

at the time I had the surgery (when I was 42) I had been on 4 different

antibiotics for a total of one year prior. I had sinus infections all winter

for years which usually turned into pneumonia. I also developed asthma during

that time. I have not had one sinus infection since and the asthma symptoms are

gone. I use clarinex all year round, flonase during the allergy high season and

the sinus rinse product when I feel a cold coming on and have been able to keep

it under control. Surgery was a breeze being out of work for about 4 work days

and did a large art workshop the following weekend. Nose tenderness for several

months afterward, but nothing horrible. Hope this information helps. God

bless. Kathy from WI RS/AS/uveitis, etc., etc.
